I don't care for the Liberty. Its to small for me. I feel like I'm driving with my knees in my ears. I would go with a Cherokee Grand or not. At least you can still get off road and there is lots of upgrades available. Griz

With the grand, you can get a V8, but with the new liberty's they make a diesel for them (claim 25mpg+), but if I remember the grand's had tranny problems a few years ago. The XJ cherokee is a good bid, especially for the price range your looking for. The newer ones share the powertrain with the TJ's.

1999 XJ Four door, mostly stock for now, but I am in the process of building a custom plate bumper.

I've got a 2002 Grand Cherokee with the V-8 fully loaded, leather etc. 120K miles. The only problem I've had was the battery died at about 15K miles. My Sears Diehard has lasted since. It's got pleanty of room for the kids and is way cooler than a minivan.

Coming out of a Blazer, assuming it is an S-10, the liberty should not seem small. You should be able to find one close to your price objective. The only problem with the grand is your price. If you are looking for a family vehicle you want something newer with less miles for reliability. That is probably the only reason to get the Liberty over the Grand. If I were to choose between to two, it's the grand all they way.

I disagree! I had an S10 Blazer and fit in it fine but when I drove a Liberty it was very cramped. Of course I am 6'4" so it may not be a problem for someone else. Best thing to do is try them on for size I still think the Grand Cherokee is the way to go. For a family it is roomier and it would be more comfortable on a long drive. Griz

Even in the Grand Cherokee to get in below $10k you're looking at a something at least 6 years old with 80k plus on the clock. Hoping that no one has tried to do anything insane with it.

mmmmmmm.....interesting dilemma!

I currently own a 2003 Wrangler and 1999 Grand. I am trading in the 99 Grand Friday for a new Tahoe. The Grand is Limited, V-8, Leather, Power everything, Sunroof, Great shape, 120k. The only issues we have had with the Jeep is the dual climate control. The passanger side acuator is a fairly common "break" This lets in fresh air from outside and also keeps it out. It is stuck in the open postion so now it blows in cold air if it is cold outside. It will cost aprox $500-800 to fix this. The part is cheap but the labor is a killer. (disassemble the ENTIRE dash) I know I have looked into fixing this myself. This is not my first GC. I have owned a 98, my parents currently own a 96 and a 00. They have had great luck with thiers. I say just check it out throughly and you should be good to go. Sorry this is long. Good Luck any other questions just PM me.
