Is it true they short out in water crossing? If so is there anything that can be done to water proof them?

They just seal things up better. So does toyota. I have owned more 4x4's than I can truly remember, and gonna have to put jeeps on the bottom of the list for water use. Especially older jeeps. They can be fairly waterproofed, but alot of trial n error to get it good. I totaled my fj cruiser in salt water quicksand, it was waterproofed real good, ran for 5hr horn button deep, and it did get me home, but the damage was done. My buddy's tj got stuck too, he cut it off, never sucked water, and 4 hr of cleaning he was fine.

I cringe when I have to go thru deep water or mud, which doesent happen often. They both can do an awful lot of damage.Always change your fluids after going in deep water.
