Outran a Prius

This forum doesn’t have a “Kills” section, but I thought I’d post anyways…

During the research phase of my recent Wrangler purchase, I read a few times from different sources that Wranglers have traditionally had problems outrunning Priuses off the line in heads-up drag races. So, after lining up with a Prius (or as I call them, a “Pious”) at a red light on a 6-lane boulevard the other day, I put the Pentastar to the test. There was no revving, no tapping the dash, no honking; just two men and their machines waiting on the green light. My peripheral vision notices the crossing lanes’ lights turning yellow, so I bring the lump up to 1200 rpm and start coming out on the clutch. Light turns green, I make a smooth start, and the Prius gets a good launch off the line; its tires clawing for traction. I don’t know how those Toyotas work, but he probably had both gas and electric motors pegged out as he sped away from the light. Long story short, I had that Toyota through first, second, and third and at 42 mph and three car lengths in front, I backed off in triumph as he performed the clichéd “ricer fly-by” in his indignation of defeat. Of course, the older lady in the third lane who outran both of us in her Delta 88 as she listened to Strauss’ “Blue Danube” didn’t seem to notice the epic battle happening just mere feet from her insulated cockpit. Her loss.

So, please take my story as the necessary empirical evidence that a Pentastar powered Wrangler will outrun a Prius off the line. And, this story is in no way meant to besmirch the 3.8 L engine as I’m sure there are plenty of kill stories, or “I just drove over that Prius” stories out there for the 3.8.

Prius owners just don't strike me as the dragging kind? Jeep owners we'll...we've been known to "try" things.

I agree - excellent job! But I think if he was going for publication, he would have gone full-gonzo and embellished more.

Perhaps something like:

As I heard the twin powerplants of the Prius howl with their unbridled raw power...the mighty 1800 cc gasoline engine squealing like teenage girls at a Justin Bieber concert...electric motors shrieking like a Norelco plowing through ZZ Top's beards...

...I knew then - I had a real fight on my hands

There is a General Jeep Discussion section.....why waste space in the section reserved for meaningful JK discussions!?

Biggest dinkuses on wheels IMO Prius then BMW followed by Hummers. The rest of us brag on our rides Jeeps, Mustangs, Camaro's, Vettes etc etc but at least most of can respect the others rides even if we give them a hard time.
