Paint warranty?

A recent thread about bare primer areas on a new JK got me to wondering what the factory warranty is on the paint job. My '02 has a real problem with the clear coat checking and will require a re-paint of the hood soon to arrest the problem. Seems rather soon for clear coat to be checking since the jeep's not abused.

Pretty sure the warranty on paint is going to be very short lived. There's no way for mfg to control how the paint is maintained once you leave with it. I have no basis for this other than the way my brain works... But really, I can't imagine them warranting paint for much more than a year. And 8-9 years is pretty good service from yours. I understand that there have been issues with the clear checking on our hoods, and it's worth a shot to look into it. But if you aren't the original owner, then you are probably pretty much out of luck.

That intense blue is a cool color. Maybe you could do some research and see if that particular color had problems. If so, maybe you have some recourse. My friend has a 2000 black Dakota and everyone I see has a problem with the paint, especially on the hood. Good Luck.

I am the original owner, and I can agree that a paint warranty for cosmetics wouldn't be that long. However the clear coat checking and peeling is a manufacturers defect rather than a cosmetic issue. The clear coat is not bonded to the color layer properly. I'm not really interested in trying to force a warranty repair or anything, I'm just more curious than anything else. I'll probably re-shoot the hood myself when it starts to gets real bad. A local body shop quoted $1200 just to shoot the hood and fenders, hell, I can shoot the whole rig inside and out for less than that.

2010 Wrangler paint issues

Looks like I need to gather more info from others that have noticed primer showing through on there '07-'10 Wranglers. I have looked at many new Jeeps, those with clear coat have primer showing around the hinges, among many other areas. Two body shop told me over $9,000.00 to repair, one was the dealership shop.
Any questions please contact me
