Painting and Armor All...

I want to repaint some of my interior on the YJ, namely the inside of the half doors, center console and dash. Problem is the Jeep is an '88 and im sure the PO put Armor All on it religiously for twenty years before I bought it. I've done some searching and come up with all kinds of results. Some have said if it's ever had Armor All on it then painting is a waste of time others have said it's still possible with the right prep work.

Opinions?

I paint for a living....I will not offer a opinion, but a fact... I paint cars everyday that have been treated with amour all and other silicone based products.....zero probelms..

All you need to do is make sure whatever your going to paint is cleaned very well..

These had ALOT of amour all on them....

Degrease before you do anything else, and then again when you think you're finished. Then start painting.

I decided I hated my spice interior after years and went all black. I used Purple Power cleaner, acetone and rubbing alcohol in that order. I did the doors, cage padding, dash, etc. Of course a week later I ended up putting in a full cage. Anyway, I decided to customize the rear seat a bit as well. I think it turned out looking great.

Denatured alcohol works well too. Permatex also makes a plastic/vinyl cleaner/surface etch product that comes in a 1qt metal can with a screw on cap. I have had good results using both.

Unless you're using the diluted stuff with perfume oils in it, it does not. Rubbing alcohol is widely used as a surface prep.

The test to see if you have cleaned it properly is to get a water bottle and spray the surface. If water still beads up, then you need to continue cleaning. If it just runs off, then you should be good to go.
