Painting brakes?

I had a cooky idea the other idea, thinking on painting or plasti-dipping my brakes a different color (probably blue). Would this be possible? Is it dangerous? Would it even stay or would it chip off? I'm a noobie to cars in general right now, so forgive me if this idea sounds stupid :x

brake calibers yes paint them they will look great . they make high heat paint for that also. tire off and mask all around it and go to it . nothing looks worst then rims with wide spaces and a greasy crappy looking caliber .

Thanks! Good idea, I will! Now, the decision is do I paint them blue or black... My dome lights and license plate light are blue, I kind of want to continue that blue accent theme I have going on

Remember to clean clean clean before you paint..

A couple of buckets or bungee cords could be helpful if you take your brakes apart to paint them. How I've always done it anyways. I can inspect everything while I'm there to make sure nothing is wrong.

Good luck

Gotcha. What exactly did you use to clean them?

+1 For brake caliper paint. Pretty much every automotive store carries it, some in a kit. Just do it right otherwise it looks like crap.

Aw man, I'm really debating if I should do blue or black. I feel like blue will make it look too much like a sports car :x

Thanks for all the advice guys!

This has been one thing I've been wanting to do to mine. I've even contemplated on buying a SSBC "red" brakes for the JK, but they only come in pairs and only for the front. I think the red would complement the black wheels and tires I have. Do what you feel matches the best with your theme. Red to be honest, would look better than black or blue..

I don't have any red on my truck, I'll reserve that color for the brakes on my dads charger. Even if its just black, I feel it's much better than those plain dull gray calipers

I did the calipers on my car black for two reasons, I didn't have brembo's and it helped hide the caliper and make the wheel the star of the show.

The Jeep I haven't figured out what wheel or if I am even going to change the wheels so caliper colors will be left until later..

I kept the stock Sahara rims on my 09, I like how they look and don't really want to dish out so much cash on new rims. The stick rims are pretty spaced out, so the calipers will be pretty noticeable

FINALLY DID IT. Had some time this weekend and did them! I am quite happy with the results.

If you want to do this yourself, some pointers. Definitely scrub the calipers, it gets a lot of dust and dirt off. I did it first with a wire brush (strongly recommended) then a 320 grain steel wool. When you scrub the caliper spindle, make sure you don't take out by accident the caliper brake pad spring and lose it like i did :face palm: i painted the outside of the brake pads too. Also, the caliper spindles have some pretty big lugs on them, it'll take some heave ho.

Now here are some pics

Very nice. Don't worry about the standing out thing or looking like a sports car. You do you on your ride. Some will like it, others will not, but in here I have found most folks are very positive. I think the blue looks great! Now, go forth and customize. don't be afraid to be different. Of course this coming from a guy that painted his Atomic Green with flat black accents....... But I like it! lol
