Painting Front Bumper

I just bought a new unpainted front bumper. How do i go about finishing it, or would it just be better to pay someone?

I bought the bumper on ebay. The seller is excel22 , who happens to owns a truck and fabrication store. Thanks for the complements, I hope it will look just as good on my yj. I won the auction for it with a bid of $46.

how crazy do you want to go with it? just some color? or maybe youre looking for a quality, long lasting application?

how are your painting skills?

tape, newspaper, and a few rattle cans never hurt anyone.

which ever route you go, just figure to spend alot of time with the prep work, thats the hard part.

PowderCoat. I'm about to pull off my entire setup and carry it to the PC shop. Should have done it up front but was impatient.

I can spray paint fairly well. I dont want to go crazy, i just want it black. Ill sand a little bit, clean with xylol, primer, and then some black.

I used a flat black for primer then for the final 3 coats I used a can of duplicolor truck bed liner spray paint. It looks pretty good, you can check it out in the TJ forum under pics of custom bumper.

Good looking bumper!

thats what id do i think. sand it, clean it up, tape it off, good primer coat, and a few rattle cans of a good rust resistant paint... or if you have access to a compressor and an air gun, you can get a gallon of rustoleum from home depot for about $25 (not that youd need that much)

i recently painted an outdoor furniture set (a table and 6 chairs) with that stuff. i did absolutely zero prep on em because i was convinced that it wasnt going to work well, or look good, and id have to be repainting them every spring anyways.

but to my surprise, they turned out awesome! i put 2 heavy coats on, and it they look great!

my buddy used the leftovers to paint his rear axle on his tacoma... and it looks great as well.

i was mad, i shoulda kept the left overs to do my own damn axles!

*2 for the spray on bed liner. Did that on mine and it's help up quite well. (minus some scratches from slamming into boulders, of course )
