Painting my hardtop - clearcoat or not

I've decided to repaint the hardtop on my 03 Wrangler Sport. It looks to be in good shape, with no obvious damage, but is faded and looks worn out.

After doing a bunch of reading and googling, I figured I could use Krylon Fusion in spray cans to do the job.

Trying to get the "little woman" to warm up to the jeep, I sent her to store to pick out the paint color. She returned home with Fusion paint, but in a "Hammered Finish". (It actually is a great color).

Any issue with using that finish on the HardTop?

and I couldn't find any consensus on whether I should use a final clear coat on top of the color. Some say they had good results, and some say terrible. What do you all think?

Any last minute advice for me?

I always thought Jeeps looked weird with shiny, polished tops, personally, I wouldn't clear it. If I paint my top, it'll be with Herculiner.

I used Krylon to repaint my hardtop. Had the same issues you described.

Personally, I don't think it needs a clear coat and clear coating is difficult to get looking "correct" from a rattle can.

My suggestion would be to just paint the top with the color you've chosen. Step back for a few days to view the new look and then decide if you want it shinier. I'm familiar with the hammered style you described. I think it's going to be shiny enough.
