Exclamation Painting the inside of a JK hardtop

I have a JK with a hardtop. I HATE the white on the inside and want to paint it. But I have questions and I just couldn't find the answer I was looking for on the threads that were talking about it.

1) What is the best paint to use?
2) Prep work?
3) Did you use clear coat?
4) How did you do around the fasteners?
5) How did it hold up where the fasteners are?
6) How long did you let it dry?
7) How many coats of paint?

I know it's a lot of questions. I want to go to Menard's after work and get the supplies to do this. Nothing like giving short notice...LOL. Any help would be grateful!

So I had to look at a different forum to get my answers. After a long shopping trip I got everything I needed. I have set up shop in the garage and will work well into the night doing the prep work. I just removed all the screws. Had a bit of a mishap tho. I lost a screw in the hardtop. And when I mean in...i mean actually in the hardtop. One of the screw that secures the window arm went into the housing which holds the wiper fluid (top is on its belly). Yep only me would that happen to...ugh. So tomorrow I will be making another trip to Menards to replace the lost screw which will forever rattle around inside my hardtop. FML...lol.

Just got done sanding the large portion of the hardtop. I used this...

Taking a smoke break then back to sanding the two smaller panels. My goal...get all the prep work done before I go to bed. Including taping.

Black with Duplicolor bedliner. I am done for tonight. Took me alot longer to sand and wash it clean than I thought it would. I couldnt tape it. It is too moist outside and the painters tape isnt sticking well. I will do it tomorrow and begin the painting.

Thanks and I will post pictures as I go along. There arent too many threads about this mod so I figure might as well since I am doing it. And somewhere this weekend I have to find the time to do my nails since I broke one sanding. Sucks to be a girl sometimes...lol.

Keep us updated on how well that stuff works out. I've been wanting to spray some on the back half of my tub but a little sketched out by most aerosols.

OMG...the taping s#cked sweaty donkey b@lls. It took forever. But I did it. 6 cans of Duplicolor bedliner was what I used and I have a 2 door hardtop. Its not perfect. My fingers started to get super sore from the spray cans. But here it is. Currently it is drying in the sun.

I read that thr roll on you dont get a even smooth finish as a spray can. Especially with something with so many bumps and curves as the hardtop so I went with the spray. Word of caution...buy the trigger thingie for the spray cans. My finger got tired and took a beating.

I am going to try to make it. The time is alittle hard for me. I don't even get out of work until 5pm and it's my last day before my staycation, which means everyone will panic and leave everything until the last minute...lol.

That looks great. I don't know how I feel about the texture of the bedliner on mine. I haven't decided if I am in love with it or not. I like it WAY better than the white tho. Thanks for posting your pics!

It looks like you panted where the panels seal to each other... Any leaking problems because of this? Thinking of eventually doing the same thing.
