Parking your jeep while flexed?

Waddup forum!

Usually if I happen to get a corner parking spot I'll park with my one front tire up on the curb if I'm just going in for a minute to grab something. But I was wondering if leaving the springs flexed for an extended period of time ( 9 hours at work for example ) would be bad for the springs?

Thank guys

NO !-good springs can stay compressed, or stretched for extended periods of times, if the temperature changes aren't extreme

I would think that if they are good metal they should be able to withstand the compression or extension for a long time. I always think about the valve springs in the engine being in one place for a long time and they always retain their spring. However, that being said, I still would not leave mine in a flexing position for any length of time just because I am thinking like you. How weird is that?

It depends on the magazine, and spring metal type - but I'd be careful. You're most likely wearing out your springs faster by loading/unloading the mags.

I don't disagree with that either - if you buy quality, and properly store them - the springs will function for a very long time even with use. They will however, last even longer if they are left compressed or uncompressed.

Check this thread on another forum if you want to see some other opinions.

Loaded AR mag vs. unloaded mag.... or just drop one round?

The same goes for jeep coil springs. As long as you are not stretching them beyond the bending point (hitting plastic deformation levels), the spring will last longer being compressed, or uncompressed than say driving constantly on bumpy roads where the springs are moving up and down. It's friction/heat that does in springs of any kind.

I'm never without at least one firearm, let alone my Jeep.

^^^^In the other forum, the one you linked in a previous post, you stated that most of the members of the military don't know anything about guns. How do you figure that? Have you been in the military? Did you poll every military member you've ever met to get this opinion? I'm just curious how you're going to answer this....

I guess what they are saying is that a good spring is a good spring and it does not fag out.

I really doubt you get a response Cavediver.

Anyone who shoots a 1911 will tell you the magazine springs wear out. If you have mag springs that are 27/17 years it is because the gun doesn't get shot. I use Wolfe mag springs and recoil springs. Mag springs will go 1500rds and recoil springs normally 5000rds. I shoot 5k - 8k a year from one Les Baer.

Yeah, I'm guessing he'll avoid answering that question.

Neither one of these is in competition status, so lets consider the resident use, first--OK

I've got a Weatherby 257 mag, thats almost 50 years old and I haven't had to replace the bolt spring !!

If you want to register at the other forum we can talk about it. I don't want to take things too far off topic over here, especially discussing posts from a whole different forum. Keeps things nice and clean.

I will vouch for Cavediver he will play nice.

Jimbo I meant no harm. Please for safety reasons you should replace your recoil springs regularly. I can give you part numbers if you need some.

I don't shoot the Colt NM anymore , it's getting pretty old and just smells good ()

My S & W is not too busy, but does get shot

I need some new mags for my 1911 . . . could just be due to the mags being old but a couple are bad and cause jamming . . . I figured it was from keeping it loaded and having the spring compressed . . . wouldn't leaving the mag empty so the spring isn't compressed make the spring last longer than having it loaded? Another thing I like about my revolver . . . don't have to worry about that kinda stuff.
