Was ot warm enough outside? Did you dust coat first? How long between coats? It was about 70 when I did mine, then a very light mist coat, then a slightly heavier coat and I let that one dry. 3-4-5 coats were gradually thicker amd longer waiting periods, took me like 4 hours

Aaaaah. I see. I sprayed mine while they were on my Jeep, and I masked the lugs. I was just too lazy to take them off. So luckily I hadn't had that problem. But it all makes sense now......

I drive down the highway a couple of miles after a wash, and then go back home. Nicely wind dried.

Yes, cant touch it for a few days with a towel. I did that as well. It should though be dry to touch in 4 hrs or so. What was the temp when you did it?

I only had a before and after pics, here is the entire process and it's holding up great.

I washed the car and wiped the area i was going to spray clean with alcohol.

Starting shot

Taped off sides and sidestep holders

Put plastic bags over the sidesteps, probably wasn't needed but just to make clean up easier

After 3 cotes, I put 4 cotes on and still need to do it again and remove the tape right after I spray & before it dries to make a clean line. When I removed the tape I have a jagged edge but its hidden under the side of the door

Finished product

I hope I'm not asking any of the same questions sorry if so. I've started dippin some things on my JKU. The wheels are next. I have a good feel for it now and have one question. Does anyone have any experience with problems when rotating the wheels ? And damages to the dip or peeling. I would hate to recoat after every rotation lol.

Just spray them with the lug nuts taped and sitting in the holes.. that way u wont spin the dip out when u tighten the lugnuts... I learned the hard way....

Alright guys, some of you have been asking me for this, so here is my full car spray photos.

I am taking a 1500 mile round trip to the smokey mountains to drive the dragon (an annual s2000 event) and last year, my front end took a pounding with rock chips and such. This year, I wanted a cool look for the trip as well as protection. I have assembled a few pics and a video for you guys to look at, and if anyone has any questions, I will try and answer them to the best of my noob ability.

Overall, the project came out 7 out of 10 by my standards for a shiny sports car, and 8.5 out of 10 if we are talking about a Jeep, 10 out of 10 for those that like the finish...it's all subjective.

Due to the low temperatures in the morning, as well as my first time spraying with a gun, I did not calculate how fast the stuff dries. The gun shoots it out MUCH finer than the can, and as a result, on a cool, dry morning, the dip was drying almost instantly, causing a slightly TEXTURED (think powdercoat) finish rather than a perfectly smooth finish. Again, some might prefer this look on a Jeep, I don't mind it on the s2000 either. Looks cool. I used 3 gallons on the car, slightly overkill (I'd say by one gallon almost) but I wanted a MONSTER coat that would peel off with ease without any problems. This stuff WILL prevent pinstriping from medium/small branches if put on thick enough.

Make sure you tape off EVERYTHING you don't want to clean off later. The time it takes to tape it off is half, or even 1/4 of the time you will spend cleaning up the residue, trust me, suck it up and mask.

Plastidip and thinner.

Starting to tape off the car.

Taped off the top part

Note, tape off INSIDE between the panel gaps. Open your doors, hood, etc, and tape where the dip will hit through the cracks. Makes for a much cleaner finish. Also cover up the engine bay with a garbage bag.

After the first coat. I know it's hard to tell, because its red on red, but this coat should be faint.

Second coat. You can begin to lay it on thicker.

Looks clean....

This is the finish you are LOOKING for (but not THAT easy to get.)

After 5 coats

Sorry for the changing shade and color. Garage door was open and iphone camera doesn't like extreme lighting conditions.

Here is a short video of removal.

Here is the scrap of it.

Anywho, hope you enjoyed the read, any comments or questions, I'll be glad to answer. Will throw up "professional" shots later in the week.
