well I did my hinges tonight... Its not as easy as doing the wheels... very annoying.. Might just peal it off and go without. I'd post a picture buts it's 1am and dark out.

How difficult is the inside of the Es and P? I'm trying to get my head around the difficulty and I don't want to end up with scratches or permanently blacked out spaces. Thanks for this thread - hugely informative.

has anybody ever thought to use plastic dip as an undercoat?
would it stick? how long would it last? could it trap water?

Dipped my entire jeep 4 times. Here are some current pics. It not only protects but it gives an awesome finish.

I'm using two separate sprayers, the Graco 2900 as well as the Earlex 3500.

I have a few different tricks and tips as this is a side business. If you ever need any help, let me know. I'd be happy to help.

Pics of the during process? And what shade of blue is that?

Here are a few of the prep, literally lost a few of the during pics this afternoon.

Also the color is standard blue dip with a few black tints from the dyc tint kit.

I've got more: Any problems with removing after without messing it up? A trouble area I see would be the soft top drip rail retainer. Since you sprayed with the top on, I'm guessing when off there's a line. Pic?

Did you just spray onto any of the under fender components like shocks or brakes? Since I notice you taped off everything but them

How many undercoats of flat black? Is that what gave it the final color it has? I like your finished product a lot more than the color sample of blue on dyc.com.

Did you already have your grill sprayed?

Why didn't you just take the mirrors off? Or is that a pain on jks?

How do you like your duratracs? I'm planning on getting those with level 8 trackers (wheels subject to change) when my current wrangler radials I jist got give out in a couple years.

I've been investigating this since I first sprayed my wheels last july. I'm a firm believer of plastidip now. I'm thinking either green or red, tinted darker like yours, or maybe even the same blue now that I see it. And I'm thinking this could be a source of a little side money. Assuming you already had the sprayers, how many gallons of dip, and how much did they run you?

Any gunmetal pics yet? A seach showed some requests, but no pics. Considering gunmetal on CG. Like the look of black, but it's pretty common.

Thoughts? Thinking doing of the windshield bracket and hinges. Might go well with the 13' Rubi wheels.

I'm not a huge fan of the gunmetal but...the charcoal grey which is gunmetal tinted with a little black is amazing, definitely look into that. It will give your jeep a nice look. Then again,it's your jeep so if gunmetal is what you want...do it! It always peels off.

Answer: no problems removing as everything is easy to peel as long as you put on enough coats. I will provide a picture of the drip rail retainer as soon as the weather clears up. Very easy to do though.

Did you just spray onto any of the under fender components like shocks or brakes? Since I notice you taped off everything but them
Answer: no I don't spray on shocks or brakes they are fully covered with drape but I guess I didn't take a picture of that, sorry.

How many undercoats of flat black? Is that what gave it the final color it has? I like your finished product a lot more than the color sample of blue on dyc.com.
Answer: honestly, I have 20 coats under the blue. I have changed colors 4 times so far. I achieved this color blue but using the dyc black tints. I had 4 gallons of blue with 1.5 black tints.

Did you already have your grill sprayed?
Answer: yes I sprayed my grill but touched it up on this last job. I really like the black grill look, gives it a cool look to break up the blue.

Why didn't you just take the mirrors off? Or is that a pain on jks?
Answer: they are a pain to take off bc of the heated mirror wires, doable yes, easier to peel the dip off the mirror bracket then go through all the trouble of removing, just my opinion.

How do you like your duratracs? I'm planning on getting those with level 8 trackers (wheels subject to change) when my current wrangler radials I jist got give out in a couple years.
Answer: hands down my favorite tires, on and off road superiority and couldn't be happier. I sold my wrangler sras on Craigslist and just bought them bc hey, they look a whole of a lot better and it's a jeep! Aggressive functional tire man, discount tire direct all the way!

I've been investigating this since I first sprayed my wheels last july. I'm a firm believer of plastidip now. Assuming you already had the sprayers, how many gallons of dip, and how much did they run you?
Answer: I did have the sprayers but that goes for $120 in lowes. As far as dip is concerned, I used 2 gallons of concentrated dip that I thinned myself to 4 gallons. $200 all in. If you were to get sprayable dip, that goes for $60-70/gallon, includes shipping depending who you order from so it's up to you.

Personally I like to thin the dip myself and tint but there are some people out there who prefer sprayable already thinned dip, hey, each their own.

Any other questions feel free to write back.

I only thought about gunmetal because I saw my local HD had it in stock. I will try to find some charcoal gray to see in person.

Thanks!

Depends on your color scheme but it's really easy to dip the rail to make it look good.

Maybe the top of the rail. I'd think it'd get pulled or rubbed off if it was actually in the rail.

Morning...

And afternoon...

When I first picked up a can of white Plastidip, it was to use to protect the fenders but then I thought...
