My wheels weren't too dirty. I just took a wet rag to them, then used the rubbing alcohol once they dried.

you can find how-to videos and recommendations from www.dipyourcar.com you can also buy plasti dip from the site, in all sorts of colors. i got red black and the can of gloss to put over the rims once i dipped them. you can also find tons of videos on you tube on how to prep and dip things.

After getting some new tires I figured it was about time I ditched the steel coloured wheels, gave them a few coats of plastidip, looks a lot better!

Heres a photo from when I bought it, and now with the new tires and the plastdipped steelies.

Tires are 265/75r16 Goodyear Wrangler Territories. I also dipped the Trail Rated emblem a few months ago. The front emblem you can see is black, but that was bought, not dipped.

Syntackz, your pics won me over. Since I'm still waiting for my stock order, I'll stop obsessing over which black wheels to buy and plastidip the stock and upgrade the tires. How do you like the 265/75r16? Any issues? Would you do anything different? Love how it looks and this will save me a couple $$ for other mods.

I see a lot of people dipping the lugnuts as well. Doesnt that seal them up and make them impossible to get off?

I posted this in the "Tires & Wheels" section, but figured I would add it to this thread too:

Plasti-Dipped My Rubicon Wheels

Hi everyone, I am new to the boards, but have been reading a bunch of posts...since you guys helped me out with some info, I thought I'd return the favor.

I have a black 2013 JK Rubicon that came with the anniversary rims, which are nice, but I wanted black on black on black, so I did some research on Plasti-Dip.

I used 2 cans on all 5 tires while applying 5 coats to each tire with 20 minutes between each coat. I removed each tire so I didn't have to tape everything. I used playing cards to keep the plasti-dip from getting on the tire (stuck them in between the wheel and the tire).

I am very pleased with the outcome and hope it lasts a long time.

oh and if anyone wants to bust my stones that I put side steps on, here's my disclaimer, I have 4 small kids (and 1 on the way)...they love riding in the jeep...so this gives them the means to get in and out on their own...even though I still have to push the seat forward for them

Thanks for listening.

Mike

If you use a can per wheel it will hold out pretty good. I used 3 cans for all 5 wheels and it's doing pretty good so far but have been told by others that a can per wheel is the way to go.

Anybody spray the keyholes? I don't have keyless entry so I have to use them but really would like to cover that chrome. My thought was to put spare key in keyhole and tape it up and then spray. Could this cause any problems? Any better advise?

You can spray the keyholes, just when you use the key the little rectangle where you put the key will come off.

I have almost covered my whole jeep with plasti dip including the keyholes. I do have keyless remotes, but I did try putting the key in to unlock the door to see what it would do. All that happened was that rectangle the key goes into got messed up so I peeled it off. I ended up peeling the whole lock to see how it looked against the rest of the door being black, but I am going to cover it back up again though.

I would imagine over time it would peel unless you are really careful to hit the center with the key each time and don't miss. Show us some pics?

I have a silver 2 door like this and just did my stock wheels last week. I wasn't sure what to think about it... and then I did the keyholes and BAM! I love it now. Totally completed the look.

did 4 coats waiting 20 min between coats. Liter the coats the better. Don't spray it like spray paint. Light dusting. Used painters tape and newspaper to tape off. Just make a square around it and let dry and the plasti dip will just peel off the paint.

I taped a square around the emblem about 1 inch away from it so I could peel against the emblem. Came off great. Prob put 4 or 5 coats on mine. Also attached Jeep emblem

Well after I messed them up the first time I got on this wonderful forum and someone mentioned using a toothpick to get the paint from inside the e and p. Works great just be patient. Also goo gone will take the plastidip right off just in case you get it somewhere and have a tough time peeling it. Good luck and post some pics when you do it!
