plastic vs metal fenders

I am looking into getting flat/tube fenders for my jeep and I'm wondering what everyone thinks about the plastic cj style fenders from MCE vs. any metal tube fender.
-I read in another post for instance, that you could tweak the tub if you really hit something with the metal tube fender, not to mention a plasic fender would flex and get out of the way to get into smaller spaces.
- Also, I'm taking weight into consideration. What kind of additional weight will be on the front with metal tube fenders? Where as the plastic fenders are eliminating some metal that is there and just adding plastic. This just has me thinking alot, any input would be great

I installed the MCE flattys on my TJ recently and I'm glad that I did mainly for the look, but with 33s and a 3" lift, I'm glad I did. I think I would have ripped off the stock flares with the sway bar disconnected. The weight of the OE fender that I cut off is minimal really. The plastic fenders weigh as much as a bird, ABS plastic, they will flex quite a bit but I'm sure they have a limit. Atleast They won't bend the tub.

I've not heard anything bad about the MCE flatties. I'm running Genright's G3 however, and I'm very impressed with the quality/fit/finish. Here's what they look like...unpainted and painted...

Loving the look of cavedivers flares. I'd say go with metal flares... I prefer the look, they cover just a little more than say the MCE flatties do. TJ's just look odd to me with almost nothing sticking out from the sides...

Thanks!! They were $550 shipped from 4wd.com. They were running a free shipping special so I jumped on it.

Messy. But you don't buy flatties for mud coverage.

Bump TTT

I am wondering about this same issue right now.

I really want to hear about the weight.

That seems like the main advantage of MCE's product. I wish the 6" flares would come out!
