Powertrain warranty question..

I have a 08 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara which I LOVE!! However, I get in the Jeep the other day and hear this slight metal grinding noise... yadda, yadda, yadda.. it sounds like my first gear (its an automatic trans) is shot as it makes a slight woozing sound when it shifts from first to second gear. I bought the Jeep when it had 10,000 miles on it, it now has 45,000. I know the powertrain has a 100,000 warranty, but from what I understand the warranty only pertains to the initial owner, it doesnt carry over to the second owner. Is this true? I would be devastasted as I'm unemployed right now and wouldnt have the money to fix it. How can my transmission have problem with only 45.000 miles. Do I have ANY hope of convincing Jeep to help out? Thanks a million guys and gals!

You can download a copy of your warranty booklet here. I suggest you do so just to see if you disagree with the conclusion I come to below . . . .

Unfortunately, I think you're out of luck. As I read the warranty materials at the link I provided for a 2008, your Jeep had a 3 year/36k miles general warranty. That would've covered the powertrain and everything else. Because it was "transferable," you obtained that coverage when you bought the Jeep used, but it has since expired.

Your Jeep also came with the "Lifetime Limited Powertrain Warranty," but this ONLY applied to the original owner. Because it was non-transferable, you never had it. Therefore, your warranty coverage ran out at 3 years or 36k miles.

I don't believe your Jeep ever came with a "100,000 Mile Powertrain Warranty." Jeep used that to replace the "Lifetime Limited Powertrain Warranty." Ironically, you would have been far better off with the 100k version of the powertrain warranty, because it is transferable.

Again, please download your warranty to see if I'm wrong. I hope I am.

Thanks.. I'm gutted Never had a transmission problem but I know they're quite expensive I called Jeep and they confirmed what you said, but did say that a case officer would call me after I told them that it was unfathomable that a transmission can just go to hell after just 45,000 miles, warranty or no warranty. We'll see

It'd be great if they helped you out. In that regard, you're lucky you have an auto--folks can screw up manual transmissions but it's tough to crack an auto unless something is wrong or you wreck it on a trail. That's particularly if you've been driving it for 35k miles with no problems. Good luck.
