Default Problems refueling?

I have a '05 Wrangler Ruby Unlimited and have noticed since owning it the past year that refueling is a problem. What I mean is that when the tank gets close to topping off, fuel will spill out of the tank. The automatic shutoff from the refueling hose / nozzle does not stop pumping like it should. When I being my other vehicle (non-Jeep) to the same tank, same nozzle, it works fine.

Does anyone experience the same problem? What I do to alleviate that is just slow down the pumping to a mere trickle which allows a stop to the nozzle.

Thanks for checking this out.

Also, I get about 13 - 14 gallons to the mile...I mean miles to the gallon.

Try turning the nozzle sideways and see if it will go in a little more. If the nozzle isn't in the tank all the way, I don't think that it will cut off when it's full.

Hey bro, my 2005 does the same thing. Even turning the nozzle sideways doesn't work (on mine, it might on yours). What I do is listen for the change in pitch of the fuel going into my tank. It'll sound different. Then I slow down the flow and pump manually unti it's full. It's all about the sound. Hope this helps.

My 97 sport, and my 2005 Rubicon do the same thing. Jeep did a crappy job when they designed that fuel neck. Its almost a 50/50 shot when you buy a Jeep if it will do it or not

Anyway, some stations work better than others, and I also use CaveDivers method myself. Works ok as long as you are paying attention and don't zone out.

BTW, my SWB Rubicon 6spd gets about 15 mpg average with the top on, so I would say 13-14 for an unlimited is just about right. With the 4.11s and the heavy MT/Rs, our gas mileage falls far short of a normal 4.0 Sport/X/Sahara.

depends on how you put the hose in there. If you have it too far out, it will overfill. If you put it in all the way, it shuts off so put it in there just a bit pulled out.

Ditto post #3. And just in case - don't forget to flip the cap over the nozzle or your hands will smell like gas after you screw it back on.

Man, thats the exact opposite of mine. When I refuel mine the thing is clicking off all the time. Kind of a PITA. Well now that I think of it since I did the body lift it hasn't done it.

lol if it doesnt work with it all the way in, then it doesnt fit. You have enlarged your hole so that's why yours works now.

Uhhh...I don't follow your logic. How can the inlet hole get larger if all I did was put more distance between the body and frame. I never touched the filler neck or the tank inlet. The reason (I assume) that mine works fine now is the connecting hoses are straighter and no longer have a sharp bend in them. Theres no way the hole just gets bigger, unless your talking about something else and if so...Thats just icky man!!!
