Hey guys, I'm from SoCal and I've been hunting for a new ride. Ive always found the thought of owning a jeep would be awesome and now I'm honestly considering it. Im just wondering, I'm not the guy that would take my jeep on trails and stuff, just casual driving, is it worth it in my case? I really want one cause of the size and fun it looks, if I did plan on getting one I would hope to black it out, but I don't have the slightest idea about what I'm doing tbh.
Nobody can answer that question for you. You don't have to be the off-roading type to want a Wrangler. They are a lot of fun, for sure. You really won't know until you try it. Worse case scenario-you could sell it if it decided it wasn't for you.
Wranglers are all about compromise. I may not be the best person to offer advise here because I've only owned mine since June, but I am a car guy and have owned a lot of vehicles over the years. I have always had at least one 4wd at all times and my first car was a 1978 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40. Buying my Jeep brought back a lot of memories since my Landcruiser was similar in size and capability as a Wrangler.
When Jeep came out with the 4-door Wrangler I thought it was damn near perfect. My biggest complaint about Jeeps over the years was the lack of storage behind the rear seat. The 4-doors have a much more useable area behind the rear seat and I think the outside dimensions are perfect. My other vehicle is an Excursion and I sold my Mercedes E55 AMG to get my Jeep. At first I thought I may have made a mistake because it is much smaller than both the cars I had been driving regularly, but it has been growing on me everyday. Each time I drive it I like it more and more.
The Wrangler has a personality. I read somewhere else on this forum where someone said they are Legos for grown ups. That is the perfect analogy. They are always "in season" since they are capable winter weather vehicles and convertible for summer months. I like taking my doors off for a truly open air ride around town, and no other vehicle really offers that.
They aren't the best driving vehicles in the world, but they ride better than a lot of full size trucks. Mine is smoother than I expected and tracks well at highway speeds. The brakes are decent and they offer all the modern traction control gimmicks one would expect in a new car. They are incredibly maneuverable which makes parking them in the city a breeze.
As others have said, it's really up to you to decide if a Jeep is right for you or not. I can tell you this....I asked all of my coworkers with Jeeps if they regretted their Jeep purchase and all of them recommended I get one. For me it wasn't love at first ownership, but the more I drive mine the more I like it. I have no regrets.
As Master would say to Grasshopper. "The best place to begin is at the beginning." Don't know if this applies but I thought it sounded good anyhow.
