Purchase Advice

I'm looking to buy a Wrangler in the $7-10k range. I want to be able to tow some lite stuff, and go out on the beach on occasion. I'd like to get some advice on what things to look out for or pay attention for the purchase.

In that price you are looking at a YJ or TJ. Personally I'd go TJ, but that's prolly b/c its what I own.

Look for a D44 rear end if you go TJ

I suggest the I6 (4.0L) it has a little more power and same mpg.

personally I avoided modified Jeeps, as you never know how skilled the modder was, or if they 1/2 assed it. (that is until you start pulling it apart.)

You can look under the Jeep for scratches on the skid plates as a sign of offroad use (which can mean abuse, but doesn't always mean that)

High Mileage shouldn't concern you, as 200k is no problem for the 4.0L as long as its not abused to an asinine extent.

CJ and YJ

What's the difference between the CJ and the YJ? I've also seen the Sport, X, SE and I really have no clue about what is different about these models either.

I have a 99 2.5L 4 cyl. With a set of headers and ignition, I get great gas mileage (around 17-18mpg) and have plenty of pulling power. Banks header and monster exhaust.

CJ7s are OLD!! they're really nice but IMO they're either used for play or as your DD not both. The YJs are the freaks with the square headlights....sorry YJers... but those are more versitile than CJs but not as good as the TJs. Biased...NOOOOOOO just bc I have a TJ you say? Blasphemy!!!

I went with a TJ(1998) Sport. Thanks for the input. Know let the insanity begin. I just bought a Draw Tite hitch, what's next.

Has anyone replaced the carpet with the spray in liner??

Congrats on the purchase. Yes, most of us have bedliner rather than carpet. I just had mine done with Upol Raptor liner... Love it!

before we got her put back together....
