I thought this was a funny story so I figured I'd share.
Pre-story:
I went out hunting one morning and I hit a deer, or the deer hit me. She was running across the road at 0400 and she railed the drivers side of my Jeep. She put a very small dent in the drivers side door which I still ignore, broke the door handle and the best part is she ripped my rear fender off with her face....
I retrieved my fender from the middle of the highway and reattached it with some spare clips that I keep around and it was as good as new. After a full day of hunting I ordered a new drivers side door handle from the dealership.
when the door handle came in, I picked it up and took it home and started playing mad scientist with the Jeep, taking off anything that looked like it got in the way of me replacing the door handle. The Jeep door really isn't that hard to take apart. I did have to call the dealership and ask their techs how to remove the window so I can get back there. After 2 hours I had the door handle half way in but couldn't get to the last bolt. So I tossed all my parts in the back and drove it to the dealership to ask more questions.
when I got to the dealership they couldn't (or wouldn't) tell me how to put the new handle in. I was pissed at this point, so I said to heck with it and I took all my tools out and took my door apart in front of the dealership. I had parts and tools spread out over the parking spot next to me too (I had to claim my work space so others wouldn't park next to me):whistling:. I met up with a friends husband who also drives a JK and now 2 people are working on my Jeep and shootin the breeze in the middle of the Jeep dealership parking lot.
To my amazement not a single person came out to give me any grief or tell me to leave. I finished putting the door handle on and I drove home. I know now it was a simple process that I was making more difficult on myself but I'm still amazed that the dealership let me use their parking lot like a maintenance bay. I love my Jeep and now I really like my local dealership.
