question about ford 8.8

ok so I've been doing some thinking about my rear D35 and where I want to go with my jeep as far as upgrades. I don't think I will go over a 35" tire ever should I do a ford 8.8 upgrade or just look for a D44 or keep my D35?

how much work goes into the 8.8 upgrade? do I have to shave it for length, what type of welding do I have to do for it stuff like that... thanks for you help in advance.

you will need to weld up tj axle brakets
but you might have to weld on some axle brackets on a D44 unless it came out of another tj

look for the 8.8 out of an explorer with disk brakes
the 8.8 is a little stronger then a D44
(bigger ring gear and 31 spline axles versus the 30 spline thats in the D44)

you will need to get the ebrake cable from a 03 or newer rubicon
then its just regear it to match the front OR rear gear the front and rear

the 8.8 and the D44 is a good swap

i started swapping a d44 in my jeep tonite.. i repainted the d44.. and unbolted most of the dana 35.. got the driveshaft, lower control arms, shocks, and sway bars unbolted.. took a break and started drinkin =D

i decided to wait until tomorrow to go get my gfs dad's jack.. 2 jacks are better than 1... especially since i started the swap by myself.. since my friend who had me swap his blown d35 out for a new one, and also swapped his tc for him.. now when its time to work on mine he wont come around..

fwiw on my yj i was able to use my stock ebrake cable. i cut the spring about half off, looped it on the ebrake cam thing on the axle and ubolt clamped it.
