Question to the knowledgable

Is it possible to switch the passenger seat to the driver side seat? the passenger seat is in far better condition that then driver sides seat (support wise). so what I am really asking is, is it possible to switch all of the mechanics on the seats to make it work?

Once you unbolt all the brackets which will not interchange the seats should swap from drivers bracket to passenger bracket. Auto makers like to save money so having the same seat and just different brackets would serve that end.

Let's think about this. George, if you are in a TJ, it will reverse the position of your seats recliner function, which would put it right up against your center console. Does not seem like a good idea, but that is just me.

I agree. And a new skin for the seat is pretty cheap and easy to do. I would say it is a 2 on your 1-5 scale just because you have to disassemble the seat to install it

sigh. I was hoping you guys didnt think i was THAT stupid. I mean is it possible to switch the reclining functions and whatnot so that the passenger would not be the driver side with the correct reclining functions in their respective positions? I am in a YJ btw.

No one is calling anyone stupid. I just don't know how you could reverse the functions of the recliner, to swap positions of your seats. As far as it being a YJ, I can not be of much help, as I have replaced the seats in my YJ, for some suspension seats. Just trying to be helpful. Please don't misconstrue that.

As Andy has already said, why not just put seat covers, on your seats. That would greatly simplify things.

i said it light-heartedly. I know you werent.

I dont want to opt for seat covers because i love the way my seats look.

Yea thats all my question was. to see if it was possible to switch the reclining functions. maybe ill take them out real quick to see if it is at all possible.

Another option, take them to a reputable upholsterer, and have the seats re-done.

Go to a pick and pull (junkyard), find a Cavaliar with the seat color you like and bolt them into your Jeep. Cost me $40, 1 hr at the junkyard and 30 min to install in Jeep. Problem solved!!!

Al

These actually came from an Olds Achieva (97 I think).

I tried to go that route on my YJ. They wanted like $200 a seat. For a little more I bought new Bestop Trailmax's.

No answer is 100% right, to whomever is asking. All we can do is offer opinions, and ideas, and hope that some where, along the line, a light bulb, goes off, inside the person, asking the question. Seat covers, are still the cheapest way, to handle unwanted wear, on our seats. Thank you all, for tunning in to this broadcast. To all, a goodnight, and goodnight, to all.

if your on a tight budget.. just buy seat covers..

you'd waste more time and money trying to convert your seats into their counterparts..

those run $90 off of quadratec and come in all black also..

thats what im gonna get to cover up the burn holes on my passenger seat from my friends
