Random question abouy my lease...

Long story short, I took out a lease for three years and I still have about 20months left... I'm losing my license for an extended period of time (1yr) and Instead of having the car sit, I was thinking about letting my girlfriend use it...

Here's the problem, its a manual and she can't drive it (and really doesn't want to learn), is there anyway I can swap it out for an automatic or do I need to sign a new lease?

Thanks in advance.

There are penalties for early termination, do the math. Is there an option to buy at the end of a lease??? I still cant understand why someone would lease a vehicle. I dont know, let it sit or make her learn to drive it.

There should be an option to get out of it. Might be kinda pricey though. Teach her to drive a stick, she will eventually appreciate at least knowing how if she ever needed to.

I don't want to make any assumptions about the loss of license, but I wish you luck with that, bro. I hope you can get where you need to go, do what you need to do.

Is the Jeep the only vehicle in the household?

It sounds like you still want a Jeep in your stable, considering that you're willing to go for an auto while your license is clamped. Will any other Jeep suffice? It sounds like you're pretty open to possibilities at this point with no tremendous attachment to the Jeep.

I'm confident that if you want to keep the Jeep that you already have, the two of you will find a way to make that happen. Reassure your significant other that learning manual comes quickly after a couple sessions in a local parking lot.. You can make it fun... I know you can, if that's what you want. If that's not viable, do you really want to incur the early termination penalty? Check your lease agreement, and like a previous poster said, just do the math. You'll know where you need to go with this. Trust your gut.

Math.
1. Cost of turning in the vehicle now and then buying what you want in a year.
2. Cost of letting it sit, buyout at end of lease.
3. Girlfriend and Jeep could get complicated. Will she be insured. How upside down would you be if she totaled it?

Sit on it. Just think of all those miles you can cruise after you get it back without overaging your agreement!
