Rare AX-15 questions

Any info would be helpful. I have heard that the early Dakota's with a 2.5 and manual had the AX-15 with a bell housing that would bolt directly to a TJ era 2.5.

My father-in-law somehow ended up with a pair of old 4 cyl Dakotas with manual trannies taking up space in his barn...eventually one was stripped of everything he wanted and was heading to scrap, at which point I yanked the engine and tranny and tossed it in the corner "just in case" it was later needed.

I'd like to know if anyone can give me info. Is the tranny usable since it was in a 2wd truck? Is it a paper weight that I should send to the scrap heap? I have a buddy that wants to put it in a CH behind an 5.3 GM motor using an Advanced Adapter plate. Any thoughts? Does this tranny have more value to a TJ guy and I should encourage my buddy to go with a 4.0 based AX15?

The AX-15 in the Dakota needs to be 4X4 so it will hook into the transfer case. As far as fitting the bell housing I would say yes. The YJ guys use them its the back end you need to also check.

Throw this up on the TJ page and see what you get.
