Rear bumper

I'm about to start construction on my rear bumper w/ swing out tire carrier. I need ideas on the hinge and the locking mechanism. Thank you!

I don't have the link, but there was this place online that had all kinds of spindles and latches for custom bumpers.

I've always like the idea of a clamping latch... and get a spindle that can be greased!

Latch like this - http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT...MT4NO=34710338

It can be adjusted and if the "strap" breaks, its like a $2 part.

Here's the latch for my Garvin Wilderness rear bumper. It's actually quite simple in its design and that's why I like it. Take a big ass screw and a big ass nut and you'll have yourself a latch.

Here are some pictures of it:

Holy crap! Scout you're a genius! That looks like it would be the strongest and most reliable latch I could build! Not as fancy as the other, but I'll bet it'll hold up a lot better! And cheaper too!

Okay... Now for the hinge... I know I need one I can grease. That's it though...

I can't help you much with the spindle. That's more complicated than the screw and nut thing I posted above. Good Luck.

That's about the same design I have in mind for the bumper. That's easy. I'll finish that part in a day. Do you have pics of the frame reinforcements? I know I'm gonna need that for the carrier, but I'd like an idea of what I'm supposed to build.

I'll try to get more pics for this build than I did with the first. I'm gonna try to have it and a full size spare before the trip. If I'm gonna run with you Scout, I'm coming prepared!

You don't need anything heavy duty for my group. I run the bunny trails.

A full size spare would still be nice. I'm sure anything else I need you'd help with. (jack, repair, winch, etc.)

I just finished my tire carrier and got my spindle from AtoZ fab
www.atozfabrication.com.Mine is strong enough to hold a tire and me swinging out on it smoothly. They also have the bolt type latch that was posted earlier for sale but it would be really easy to make..There spindle doesnt have a grease port on it.Rokmen also has alot of good fab stuff, including a spindle. I have also heard mixed reviews about the rockstomper tire hinge..rockstomper.com.Check em out.

Don't know if it was mentioned because I'm being lazy but you could use a trailer spindle as the pivot point and a cut down hub welded to the tire carrier frame (my plan when I get the time).

Spindle

Hub

Torch work would be needed unless you like the lug look on the rear bumper.
