removal of rear fender flares?

Hello all,

I just bought a very low miles '99 TJ. I have had a couple of Wranglers over the years but it has been quite some time since I have had one and its really great to be back.

Here is my question? The fender flares of course are now gray instead of black. I picked up some Duplicolor "bumper renew" paint which works very well. I was able to remove the front flares and paint them. They look amazing. I tried to remove the rear flares but it seems you have to remove the inside fender well to get to the backs of the upper screws. Is there an easy way to do this or do you have to remove the POM rivets to remove the fender well?

If anyone has done this job and found an easier way to do it I would appreciate any help.

Talk to you all soon and thanks in advance.

The inside cover is rubber and comes out easily. There are a bunch of christmas tree plugs holding it in. Pick up a pack at the auto parts store if you want to put the cover back in (some don't). You can also just pull part of it down and work your arm inside to reach all the backs on the screws. I took it completely out and also got a lot of caked on mud out. If you just loosen the screws you can also put paper behind the flare and spray while on the jeep. I need to touch mine up after 18 months with the duplicolor. Paint held up and looks good, just with things constantly hitting them I have some spots where the paint came off. Good luck.

Hey, thanks. Good idea about just loosening the bolts. I may just do that.
