what do you all think of the LubeLocker Reusable Gasket? i usually smear the gasket maker all over the place when i do my rear diff b/c of how close the gas tank is to the diff. i was thinking that this would be a feasible alternative. what are your opinions?
Tired of scraping the mess silicone sealant leaves behind on the differential cover? All vehicles deserve clean, grit free differentials with no oil seepage. LubeLocker Gaskets can retain their seal even if the differential cover shifts, while the orange elastomer beading delivers superior sealing through a wide range of temperatures. Keep the paper in the desk drawer and throw away your RTV-LubeLocker Gaskets are the only differential seal you need.
LubeLocker "Reusable" Differential Gasket for Dana 44 Axle.
From all I've heard its a worthwhile investment esp if you take the covers off very frequently.
I went the old fashioned route when I did my cover swap b/c I couldn't get those locally. However I should have waited and painted the covers before I put them on...now I have to decide if I want to mask everything off, and paint, or remove and paint....thinking mask at the moment.
After using one on my rear diff, I'll never go back to RTV. No mess, no scraping, no curing time, etc. I've had mine one for close to a year no . . . no seeping or drips even after whacking the diff cover on the rocks!
Bite the hand that feeds you . . . you've had more than enough to eat already.
i am thinking it is totally worth the $17. the do not endorse using it more than once, but they say that you, potentially, can reuse it. i think the next time i change the diff fluid i am going to try it out.
Q: Is this gasket reusable?
A: Probably a few times. We will not endorse reuse. We will tell you that people have done it and it has worked. We will not tell you how many times. It depends greatly on the application, interval between disassembly, and "environmental factors".
I've used them for a couple of years now and they work great. Between gear changes, fluid change after the break-in period and blowing up the rear locker they been reused several times without any problems. IMO they're well worth the money.

I have one on the front and back, They both have been reused twice so far and still work fine, and i'm sure I will reuse them again. Just be careful taking them off and you can definitely get a couple uses out of them at least. Well worth the money IMO.
Yup, well worth it. I changed Dana 30 axle housings 6 times and used the same lube locker every time and it never leaked. I've had my 44 covers off several times also with no problems. Worth the money because I don't have to clean the diff before I put it back on.
