Risky Business

Getting ready to drive down to San Diego from Central Oregon this week. I am confused if i should take the chance of driving down without the top on. I will keep the doors on just so i have some protection from the sun and bugs. I hate to hit bad weather on the way down or back home. Its a 1000 mile drive for me. I plan on being down in the Girlie state for about three weeks.

Drive down to the girlie state and buy a soft top while down there so you will have options.

given your options the logical choice is to keep the top on.

Sure you'll look like a cool kid with the top off, but for a 1k mile trip it will be exhausting w/o a top, and if weather does strike you'll be wet...which will make it worse.

If you don't have another top, run the Hardtop.

my advice is worth what you paid for it.

I would keep the top on, especially when you hit the central valley ( I assuming you will be on the 5 ) it's over 100 degrees and that is about 200 miles of cooking!
The only rain you will have to worry about is in Nor-Cal on the CA/OR border~
Hope you have a fun and safe trip!!!

I know central calif. is Africa Hot!....thinking maybe driving down PCH (hwy1) to hwy 101.
Only problem with hwy 1 is that once you get on it. You have to drive a long ways before you can get off of it. Sometimes a real pain in the butt.

If you aren't in a hurry, I would do PCH.......make sure you check the grapevine, it's been off on with fires this past week, they have been closing the pass....the route around is an additional 2.5 hours UGH

If your driving the JK hardtop with freedom panels then you get the best of both worlds. Make the drive with the hardtop on, pop off the panels when you get there. I love the sunrider and freedom panels because I am basically afraid of making commitments

I would buy a safari top for trips like that. The inside..back of the jeep will still get wet, but with the doors on you'll be dry.
