Rubicon x winch

The 2014 Rubicon X comes with a steel winch ready front bumper. I would like to install a Warn 9500 cti winch. Besides buying the winch, what is it going to take to go from being "winch ready" to "winch installed"? Thanks for your comments and advice...

the moab edition came with a "winch ready" bumper that you couldnt install a winch on without a special plate. Not sure if they have one now but I know for a while they didnt exist.

Don't forget the tree saver, tow strap, shackles, pulley, gloves, and know how.

I have run the winch hard enough to see the charge light come on. At that point it's probably past time to let the winch motor cool down while the battery charges back up.

This is the same bumper as used on the 10A. IT WILL require a winch plate before you can mount the winch. So far the available choices are Mopar, Maximus-3 or rusty's offroad. Other than those three you can fab your own if you have the skills and equipment.

The hole in the bumper for the fairlead is also offset to the left side of the vehicle. The only thing commercially available to center the opening is offered by Maximus-3.

The bumper is winch "CAPABLE" not winch "ready".

Thanks Parker65....your reply was spot on....
I further learned that Warn's Xeon series winches mount in the dead center of the bumper but the fair lead opening is offset toward driver. If you want the fair lead centered, follow Parker65's advice above and get the adapter from Maximus-3. On the other hand, Warn's 9.5 cti winch is longer on one side than the other and requires an offset adapter plate from Maximus-3 to offset the winch toward the driver's side. This squares the winch spool even with offset fair lead opening and no fair lead adapter in needed.

Allegedly, my 2014. Rubicon X, granite gray will be shipped this Saturday, 11/2. WOO HOO

Yes, the Rubi X came in and Warn 9.5 Cti was installed the third day. I chose 9.5 because the Zeon winches require cutting the bumper the center the fairlead opening. Install is easy but takes about 7-8 hours. You can download the instructions to get a mental head start. I upgraded mounting bolts to grade 8. Upgrade fairlead mounting bolts to stainless steel. Pay close attention to polarity of winch cables, positive cable seems short but will reach battery. Spray steel cable with WD40. Plug extra holes in bumper with plastic plugs. Cut off plastic trim piece that goes between bumper and grill and remount with plastic body plug and put RTV between trim and bumper.

Best mod so far is GraBars from Welcome Distributing on the internet.

Nitto terra grapplers 285/70/R17 improve noise ride & handling

Good luck

Did you have to buy the winch plate kit first to put the winch on? Or does it come with the bumper? And the bolts aren't grade 8 already?
Sorry for all the questions but my X isn't due in till middle of January.. I have a cheap 12500 winch already on my old jeep I do know if I should keep it or let it go with the jeep and buy new.. It's worked great for the last 6mo,

No problem with the questions....that's what we are here for. New winch or old winch? That's a personal decision, but my thoughts are..... you have ordered the baddest most expensive Wrangler on the planet, why not put on accessories that enhance your new ride? If you google search Rubi X or Rubi 10A pics most seem to have Warn Zeon or 9.5 Cti winches. On older jeeps and on many after market bumpers, the winches are mounted on top of the bumper. On the X, it is mounted inside the bumper giving a very sleek appearance. Yes, you have to buy winch mounting with vacuum pump bracket. Bolts are grade 5, I ordered grade 8 1.25 inch long bolts from amazon.

My JKURX on order should arrive the first part of Jan. I'm putting the Warn Zeon 10-S on it (new winch is sitting in the garage now). I just ordered the Maximus 3 mount with the centering plate. You do have to cut the line slot on the bumper for the centering part, pretty simple. I'm not of aware of having to cut any other part of the bumper. There is a thread on here somewhere with some good details of install. Whatever winch you go with, call Joe at Maximus 3 regarding the mount, he's a big help. And it's less expensive than the Mopar mount.

Thanks guys.. If you go with the cti winch do you still have to cut it to center it?

The Cti is wider on the passenger side of the spool. When the winch is mounted in the center, the spool is shifted slightly to the drivers side exactly aligned behind the fairlead opening without cutting the bumper.

The winch is centered, the fairlead is offset slightly

Thanks, it looks great.. I have the 4 door version on order, I did black fenders and soft top, I live in Florida so I don't have a top on 9 month out of the year.. The only thing I'm worried about is the 4 door instead of 2 door..

Do you mind sharing the exact order and part numbers for these bolts. I have a Zeon 10-S coming but I have not ordered bolts yet.

The bolts that come in your Zeon winch box are just fine to use. No need to buy different ones. Your winch cable will break long before your bolts!

I have an "X" ordered also. I read about a warn winch and also has an air compressor. Would that work on the "X" bumper?

So far this thread has helped me a lot to start a parts list for when I order my 2015 model come June/July. Its amazing all the useful info and resources this forum has.

Is the filler plates from Maximus-3 needed or is that for cosmetics? Also, is there any benefits as to getting a Cable or Synthetic rope winch?

Thanks for any input.
