Scheduled a Test Drive

When I was trying to look into the cost of this Jeep vs That jeep, and this option Vs that opetion, I noticed that it was only giving me MSRP. So I called up the local Dodge dealership to find out what other charges would apply. They said a 399 Document fee, a 1650 Title fee. (I doubt he ment 16.50) and of course then 3.75% Tax on it all. Turns out the guy I spoke to mentioned that he owned a Wrangler before I even told him that's what I was looking into buying.

So I made an appointment with him to test drive a few and look a some. Reading about options and this Jeep and that Jeep online and looking at pictures is one thing. I think it's time I take my Jeep homework hands on, and see what these options are. See what manuvering an Unlimited is Compared to a Non Unlimited. He said theres a hill across the street where he can show me how the Hill Start Assist works. I'll have to ask about the diffrent tow packages. I'll probably special order one though, because I'd really like to have an Orange one for some reason. Their inventory online doesnt show any Orange ones. I'll also get to see how the doors come off and stuff. I saw a Jeep Wrangler today that had cargo net doors. I'm guessing those were aftermarket.

So what are some things I should ask, or look at?
How Effective is the BLSD?
What should I look out for?
Wish me Luck!
Also, I do have a friend who said he'd love to tag along so I dont have to go alone.

Alabama's title fee is $16.50, not 1,650

Alabama Department of Revenue - Motor Vehicles

You should also look for a price at least 1-2% under invoice - ignore MSRP. If the dealer isn't willing to work with you, join Tread Lightly and you're guaranteed 1% under invoice.

If you're not looking at a Rubicon with 4.10 gearing, buying a Sport or Sahara with the 3.73 gearing option from the factory can save you a ton of money and will be very nice to have if you want to add bigger tires later. Regearing aftermarket is easily over a grand and I think the 3.73 package is only a few hundred from Jeep. If better mileage is your biggest concern, stick with the base 3.21 option.

I don't have anything noteworthy to add about BLSD personally, but I've heard good things from others.

Most advertising will state something like "399 Negotiable Document fee" I'm not sure where AL stands but I recall reading that AL, FL & GA have the highest Doc Fees, some states won't let you negotiate and some set the max. TrueCar shows that average for AL is $425 and in my State, WA it's $150. Frankly when I negotiate my price if they want to charge a silly fee like that I'll ask them to reduce the cost of the car, I feel their expenses should come out of the profit they make off of me not additional charges like a Doc Fee. Once dealer wouldn't so I walked away, glad I did found a better truck 2 weeks later and no extra Doc Fee. I always used the term 'out the door price' when I talk to the sales guy so I can hold him to that price.
