Sellin the Jeep....

Yeah. I think I'm doin it. I have it up on Craigslist for $5500 but I don't know if anyone will want it, since its been on its side. But I duno, it's just not what I wanna drive around. I want something with a bit more comfort and a lot more balls, I think I'll get another 5.0, a nice clean one. I don't think its worth it to list it on here since no one is really local.

Just remember, when you see that trail running off into nowhere, dont follow your impulse to just go down and see where it goes... Mustangs tend to get stuck easy.

Thats OK, you'll be back, my whole family drives jeeps, they are super easy to work on, dependable and never go out of style no matter how old they get. Mustangs, camaros, etc all go out of style every body change. Went to a very nice country club a couple of years ago for a company dinner, valet parking, pulled up with the top and doors off, 4 valets raced over and ignored the porsche that was next to me my boss was a bit miffed, he was in the boxter When I came back out I just said 'open jeep' and there went 2 of them racing off to go get it.

I do love the Jeep and wish I could have one on the side, but I want another 5.0. The Jeep never took me through anything I couldn't walk through.

Put a 5.0 in the jeep, go wheeling..................... maybe you'll find a pot farm in the Humbolt woods. Then you'd have a Jeep a 5.0 and pot, thats heaven for you.

im getting the urge for a fast car too. it would be nice to have a GT...

so im keepin the jeep and getting a fast car for the track

the track car would get out my need for speed but the jeeps gas mileage still sucks for a DD...im running out of money

I'd need to go do some Dana 44 swap or 8.8, just a bunch of money that I don't wanna spend.

And I already have pot plants, I started em early. Legally. And I won't get shot when I go to cut em down.

I'll probably end up getting another Jeep once I'm ballin rich, but for now, I like the go-fast for cheap. Its either a commuter and a GSXR600 or some other bike, or the 5.0. I think the Mustang is a little safer.

I have a 5.0 but its primered and needs a few things other than paint. With the $5000 or so from my Jeep, I could get a realllly nice 87-93 Mustang. I do want a bike but I think that I'll just save up and get one; I work at a motorcycle shop, I see so much bad ass stuff for the 500hp Hayabusas and Pro Stock bikes we make, but bikes are just so dangerous, and my family REALLY doesn't want me to have one. They barely want me to have a 5.0. We'll see what happens, who knows if the Jeep will even sell.

I'm just waiting to paid off my Jeep and then get a nice bike.
But the jeep stays with me as long as I can keep it.

Good luck.

Thanks MCG. I'm hoping it'll sell for how much I have it up for now, but I think the lowest I'd go is $4500 is absolutely necessary, but I hope that doesn't happen.

Seem's from the above post I have a good 20+ yrs on you guys. So...here comes the old guys speach....if you like wrenching and tinkering on older cars, buy something straight enough so after you've invested a few bucks in it, cleaned it all up, you can sell it & make a buck or two. If your any good at it & dont party off the profits..who knows.

more comfort? get a TJ.. balls as in street or offroad? depends what your looking for at this point.

O and if you do decide to get a bike do yourself and the rest of the community a favor, and start off with a 250 for a year and learn how to ride for a year, I mean put miles like 10k at least.

everyone crashes on moto's, it all depends how bad you get injured. Its spring, there are tons of "squids" out on new 600-1k SS bikes.. By mid summer they will never ride again, due to bad crashes, and getting bad road rash, and scaring them away from riding.. Always wear gear.. Heck I lost count and try to forget my crashes. but it makes me more humble about speeds, I cant react to quick enough.. Sorry for the preach, take it for whats its worth.

ha...my friend started out on a 929 and then went to an R1...best rider i ever saw. of course, there was something special about him.

crashed on his bike at 120mph but kept riding like nothing ever happened. he was pretty much fearless. until some jackass decided that they couldn't wait 10 seconds and they had to pull out in front of him and end his life.

sorry to hear, this is what I mean.. lots of kids go too fast on the streets, and dont know their limits.. there have been many times cars pulled out infront of me.. but I go as fast on the streets as I can stop or swerve. heck Depending on the situation I can still be taken out by a car. its a different story on the race track. I lost a friend last year, on the street. it was no more than a couple of hours that I had a talk with him about crashing and slowing down before it happened.

I'd like a TJ but I don't have money to be tossing around. If I sold my Jeep now, I still wouldn't have enough to buy even a stock TJ. I want some bang for buck fun and something I can work on; I am familiar with the 5.0s and this Jeep seems very foreign to me.

As far as a bike, I hate all the 250s, even the new Ninja. They just don't look good, and seem to be ALL about economy. The 2 stroke 250s seem cool though...but expensive and pretty unreliable from what I hear. I was looking at older FZR400s and that kinda thing, not a 250 but not a 600.

I parked my bike 10 years ago, I was 45 and had been riding since I was 12 and could join the AMA to race in scrambles wayyyy back when. Wife and two kids, I could not justify the chances. One sat I was coming back from the post office, boonies here, no mail delivery back then, in one 5 mile stretch of road I had no less then TWO people pull out in front of me from side streets without looking. The last one I had the bike sideways against her front fender and she kept turning into me and almost ran me over with that 66 maroon Buick Electra tank she was driving. It's gotten too dangerous out there now and people seem to much meaner. Nope, I like my solid steel bumpers on the jeeps and if I want the wind in my hair I'll take the top off.

Roads are just too crazy, drive something safe and drive safetly. Do you have any idea what it is like to get a phone call saying your kid is trapped in his vehicle and gushing blood from his head? Too many idiots out there to be driving around fast. Had a 5.0 fun in the sun but sucked in the winter and dodging the cops and tickets gets really old.

Our family motto is to do it in the dirt. Got the need for speed, get a four wheeler, a dirt bike or a horse....you can tow the first two of the three with your jeep.

I do know what its like to get that call; I got a call on August 25 2007 telling me my 22 year old brother died at the scene of a car accident. So I know what thats like. But getting a car with some moderate power doesn't mean that I will get hurt driving it. I know bikes are dangerous and I'm gonna stay away from those, but a nice Mustang is just something I want, and something my brother would be proud of me driving. And after August, trust me, I learned a thing or two. I will not be driving a Mustang like an absolute idiot, I saw what my mom had to go through and theres no way I could put her through that again. I know you guys probably all think I'm for wanting to get rid of the Jeep. But I guess I'm lame.

thats the whole point.. new riders buy bikes for looks and not for the ride.. i know guys that will outride most of the people in the canyons on a 250.. do what you want... but take my advice, it wont hurt financially, and physically when; and I do mean when you crash.. just ask any rider if they ever crashed?...

As for jeeps.. I was foriegn to it also.. but I had it for not more than a year now and am confident I can repair most of it if it were damaged. My advice is if you sell it for 5k.. use 3k as a down payment and save the 2k just incase you are deliquent in payment. say a nice tj for 8k and you down 3k,, payments are like 150-200 a month.. I think you can handle that working at a moto shop.. you also sound young and it is a good way to build your credit.

this way you get a reliable jeep. If you still want to be a jeeper..

sell it

I know you hate to see it go but take it from a 48 yr old, You gotta lot of years to go. This will be only one decision of many tough ones to come. Just remember, you have to make yourself happy. You can't prodict the future. You may go through many vehicles and still get that Jeep itch at a later point. Hopefully your life will not always be this tough and you will be able to have the 5.0 as well as a terrific Jeep toy

Good luck. Hope to see ya on WF in the future.

bpowa- I can tell you really know what your saying and your one of the smart guys in the motorcycle community. I know what your sayin, a lot of people buy bikes for looks and kill themselves. I just don't want to spend the money on a bike I'll have to get rid of so quick, thats why I figured an older 400 or so would be alright to start out on, but I think I'll leave a bike for later, probably a track bike. But right know I think I just wanna sell this Jeep, have some fun in a Stang for a while and I can always sell that too.

tarheels- Thats exactly how I feel. I have a whole life to live, well hopefully, and I want to have fun while I'm doing it. Theres nothing saying I won't buy another Jeep in the future, they are sure a lot of fun.

You will all still see me around WF, either way.

Sorry about your brother. I thank God every day that he was looking after my kid. Had they been in a little car, I wouldn't have him now. Guy who hit him bent the whole frame, broke the axle in half and basically ripped the whole bed of his pick up off. (drunk and on drugs, no license, insurance...thankfully the ass is in jail for it) This same kid got hit on a quad by a car, he was crossing a road, bad spot to cross, lady must of really panic'd cause she drove off the road and hit them in our driveway. A few broken bones, lots of road rash but again, he is lucky. He has given up his want for a motorcycle but still does the dirt bike stuff. I see some of these kids on those racing bikes driving inbetween lanes on an expressway and just want to cringe. Can't help it, it's a mom thing.

At your age we had mustangs, hubby had a 80 GT, we got an 85 GT when we were married and latter after he gave it up, we bought a 73 convertable that we restored. Do what makes you happy and enjoy it.
