serious lack of chick off roaders...

Yesterday we were on a pretty populated trail, seeing at least 20, probably more, other vehicles not including the nine in my own group and out of all of them, I was the only female actually driving. There were girlfriends afraid to get muddy and being princesses and there were wives riding along, but I was it as far as drivers go.

What's the deal?

You should see my sister and multi-colored ZJ... of course they are few and sparse, but the ones that are out there really go all out.

My wife is still learning to drive stick, and she is afraid I'll get mad at her for breaking something, even though I keep telling her not to worry about it, and If it beaks I'll fix it, but she worries none the less.

Hmm. I the group I hang with actually has more females than males. Just me and my boy and there are three other girls that like to hang with us this year.

I don't know of anyone who wants to break junk and I sure wouldn't want to break someone else's rig, but I see plenty of women driving jeeps until I get to the trails. Then they're just riding along. It's wierd.

Part of it might be that the men are bad backseat drivers, when it comes to wheelin'. When we go off road, we either take both rigs or, if we're all in my jeep, Skeeter drives.

I don't know why there aren't more. All of my female friends want to ride with me and would probably drive but they don't know how to drive a stick.

There are several couples in our club, that have their own Jeeps, when we go wheeling. So I guess I have not noticed the shortage of female drivers/wheelers. But when it gets to the majors, I see your point. I don't think I saw any woman wheelers, in Moab. But I know they exist, I just didn't see any, the week I was there. I also know that there are several on this forum, that wheel their own Jeeps. And none of them would shy away from anything that I know of.

LMAO I am one of the few females wheelin in my club down here. I have seen a slow turn going on over time though. When the guys park and hop out to chat the girls a running off with their rides. I have lined up a female at the wheel only ride. You might want to try that with your local area.

I don't mind it, I just find it odd. Coming from fighting and being the underdog because of my size and strength, and knowing exactly why there were very few women, it's weird to see a "sport" which is not dictated one bit by the gender of the "player" would be so lopsided.

I was surprised today by something. I have been emailing someone on floridajeepers about buying their axles. Meet them today and it was another female. I will soon have an 8.8 Ford rear with disc brakes and a high pinion D30 front both geared with 4:10's and lockers front and rear. Going SOA She is going full width. We both have 93 YJ's

Saw a lady jeeper running on the highway yesterday on my way home from work. Looked like she had just gotten out of a mudpit and if I'm not mistaken here rig was on 39" boggers. Made mine on 33's look like a toy. The best part about wheeling is with a little practice and schooling anyone can do it well. Its not discrimatory just gets a bit messy sometimes.

Very few women feel the need to conquer. For some deep, ingrained reason, most guys feel the need to go out and win something. And let’s face it; the real thrill in off-roading is beating the trail. The sense of "I made it through THAT!" is very rewarding for me, but not so much for my wife. She can't really see the purpose of subjecting herself or her vehicle to the punishment that comes with things like the rock gardens we went through on Saturday.

On Saturday, we took our machines and put them through something that 99% of the similar machines out there would never make it through. It took driving skill as well as capable machines to do it. We all made it through relatively unscathed, we won! We came, We saw, We kicked its ass..... And we'll be back to do it again! The testosterone rush is incredible. (I get worked up just talking about it...)

You are a rare bird tiny; I wish there were more women in the world like you.
