Serpentine belt size

Hey guys I'm in the middle of a swap from 2.5 to a 4.0. According to my research, they both use the same size belt, but the belt off my 2.5 is longer. Same options, as in power steering but no a/c. When I route the belt, even with the adjuster all the way out, the the old belt has too much slack, about an inch or so. Is it possible that the belt is just stretched out and a new one is all I need? Or do I have the routing wrong? Thanks in advance

Check the routing and then get some string and run it around and measure the length. Check the description at your parts sites for length of the belt. Or just go to the parts house and get some help. If both show the same part # routing may be the issue.
