Ship a jeep across country

I'd love to take a trip west with the family but I dont want to put thousands of miles on the jeep - not to mention the days I dont have to spend doing it.
(Yes, I count the jeep as part of the family now)

Has anyone looked into shipping or putting a jeep on a train out west?

I read about amtracks "autotrain" but it only runs from vermont to FL. I'd love to have this option for a westward bound trip.

Short of spending 1,000 each way - what solutions have you found?

LOL.... it is ONLY 37 hours to San Francisco from WI........ done it.... in a Jeep..... Miata... and a 3/4 ton Chevy PU............. if you split that into 3 days.......no hill for a climber.... 4 days and you could stop at cool places like the badlands..... or corn palace....

You are cheating yourself.....sounds like you are trying to avoid being trapped with the family...... or you have more $$$$$$ than time.....

You're pretty limited as to options. Need to get my Jeep from Florida to Utah in July when I move. Looked into car hauler services. $900 to 1,100 was the estimates.
I've decided to just drive it out. Bought some ones take off steelies and my brother gave me his old tires off his work van so I could save my new Duratracs and get my mileage up from 13 to 17 mpg. Going to look a bit ridiculious with 3'' of lift and 31'' street tires, but that was my solution.
Plus it's more fun to have your own Jeep. I rented one in Moab in March and was so wishing I had mine.

I sold my '03 Rubicon to a guy in Pennsylvania last October and shipped it to him. He used Dependable Auto Shipping and was pleased with the service. I believe you can get a quote on their website:

Auto Transport Company | DAS | Dependable Auto Shippers

They have specified pick up and drop off locations...not sure how well that would work for you.
