So my buddy and I are cursing down to my place to hang out and he says I " I have heard these jeeps have maintance issues and problems except for the "trail rated" models.

^ I had someone looking over mine the other day at work. He asked me if it had been in a wreck - keep in mind - I currently have no flares as I'm working on my Bushwacker install and the weather has been my enemy with my work schedule and I gave a friend my front bumper plastic after his JKU was hit by a hit and run driver while he was parked next to me at his work. I have only the black metal gut of the front bumper on right now. I explained I was working on the Jeep as time allowed and my work schedule and weather haven't been working together in the past month. He nodded and then pointed out the trail rated badge and remarked, well, it's good you got a trailed rated one, the others are only good for driving on the street.

I let it go, in my head I just pictured a Compass getting stuck.

The Compass is "trail rated" too.

I'm pretty sure ALL the Jeep models are "trail rated" IIRC.

On the first day my parents saw my new JKU:

"Wow, thats a very macho car, it's so manly..."

"Thank's mom."

When my cousin from Israel was riding in it during a trip to the US after his service time (fyi - Israel uses a modified JKU for similar purpose to a HMVEE, it's called The Storm):
"You know, I'm not used to seeing a radio in these. There's also supposed to be a 50cal and rear facing seats. I could get used to this version..."

As long as its 4x4 I'm pretty sure all, even the compass, are trail rated. Only the 2wd ones aren't

"...look, that a-hole has his top AND doors off..."

Me to my wife as we passed a yellow JKU sans top and doors (with obvious jealousy in my voice)). It was just a bit too cold to do the same with the kiddos in the back.

The point was that even Trailrated Compass' get stuck around here, especially in snow/ice - it's more about driver skill then a badge on the side saying it can do that.

There are 2wd JK'S and JKU's. My neighbor used to have one.

I was at Autozone for a part for the JK. "Is your engine a 4 or 6 cylinder?".

Huh???

I walked back out..... If their computer is that bad, then how do I know I'm getting proper parts.

For sure. Some people think 4wd is a license to drive however you want.

Sorry, you drive 65 in freezing rain, your Tahoe is going in the ditch. (Tahoe that passed me driving like)

What am I missing here? Is their computer supposed to read your mind? Jeeps can come in 4 or 6 cylinders.

Yeah, now mine was "wranglers don't have drag links"... I opened the Chiltons book to chapter 10 and showed him the diagram that shows and states drag links.

my favorite was chet nichols where some lady told me she had worked there for 30 years and never heard of a trackbar or panhard rod.

I go to oreillys because they dont act like they know everything for the most part....and are willing to help me with weird projects, sell me sensors without knowing what car they go on and such....

I might have posted this in this thread a few months ago but I don't think so. I walked up to a parts counter to stock up on some spare parts and what not. I handed the guy a small list of parts with part numbers. 2 belts, 2 air filter, 1 unit bearing, a few 1350 u joints, and a few other odds and ends.

The guy tryed to argue with me and tell me that my jeep was to new to need any unit bearings and did not use 1350 series joints. He also told me that there was no way I needed more then one spare belt. I had to get someone else to help me because the guy just wanted to argue with me and "save me some money".

In mean come on if I was working behind the counter and a guy walks up and hands me a list with part numbers I wouldn't argue with him about it and imply he didn't know what he needed.

lol... I usually act all surprised when somebody asks about my doors... 'Oh CR@P, they fell off again!"

FWIW, I give the same reaction whenever somebody asks me about the 'top' that's 'missing' from this guitar:

I also get some interesting looks from people when I park, hop out, and then turn around to set the alarm

I've been called a G-Wagon wanna-be. Then I proceeded to power up a snowy hill in 4wd while he watched in awe at the bottom.
