His dad came down and asked me, and I quote: "My son wants a Jeep like yours, what do you think about a black kid in a Jeep" At first I did not know how to respond and just looked at him. He followed up with "Do you think he will get made fun of" to which I responded, I get made fun of. I drive my TJ, the CJ/YJ/JK guys lay into me. If I am in my wife's JK, same deal...

Took him out wheeling and done deal. His son now has a 2001 Green TJ soft top...
EXCELLENT... lol. Great story.

I wasn't amused and bought from another salesman.

Now that I have one.... everyone tells me "I've never seen a black guy driving one of these!"

To be fair....I live in North Georgia.

Shoulda made a scene and gone on a 3 hour rant about how racist that was. Heh heh.

Wtf does being black have to do with jeeps. Theres a black guy with a chromed out h2 around here. Im trying to understand why he lives in a hellhole like benton harbor if he can afford that pos.

I was helping my daughter move the other day with my JKU and Willys trailer. As we were loading up for the last trip, a guy, that looked to be in his 60s came walking by. He takes a look at my 2007 Jeep with 1942 trailer all with WWII military makings and says "Wow, that's cool they let you borrow that from the motor pool" (he was being serious)

Welcome!

We currently live in OKC, and I have never seen any black folks around here in a Wrangler. While back at dad's in Chicago we chatted up a Wrangler owner that was black when in the parking lot at Portillo's.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit that geographical differences exist. That saleman could have easily been in Oklahoma - there are soo many stereotypes around here like that, and the sad thing is they are often sooo true here.

I got this gem from my dental hygienist today upon seeing me exit my jeep in the parking lot of my dentist...

"My husband has a Jeep. I don't think he has one of the ones with the doors that come off..."

Lol. An kind older lady (at least 70ish) working the drive through the other day said "I've never seen a 'car' without doors before". I was pretty shocked to say the least...

I live in Chicago.... Happens all the time to me also....one guy even "curbed" his passenger side tire attempting to look at me in his side mirror when i passed him on a side street. After he hit the curb, I reversed to see if he was ok. Ill never forget the look on his face. He was driving a F150 by the way.

After reading through most of these replys looking for advice I could not find any so I am going to throw this one out.

I am constantly asked... "so you like your jeep"?

What the crap, how do you answer that? The options are endless but I find myself avoiding the sarcastic, smart a**, rude, downgrading answer and all i can do is respond with a dramatic pause followed by silence and a firm "yeah". then walk away.

Anybody own a jeep and not like it???

Last winter we had a quick snow that piled several inches on the roads. Of course, everyone was trying to get home and most were getting stuck. Since we rarely get a good snow, I was out cruising around in the Rubi. There is a place on the highway with a long downhill and fairly steep going up the other side. People were all crossed up blocking lanes with several off the road at the bottom.

I stopped to watch those in progress when a guy in a 2WD Ranger pickup in front of me gets out and walks back to the Jeep. He said, "I'm gonna let those people clear out then get a run to make it up the other side. You can follow me. We should be able to make it."

I kind of laughed in disbelief, and said, "If you don't mind, I'll just go around you since I'm in a Jeep and it's no problem." He kind of looked offended and walked back to his truck.

I went first at normal speed with no drama. I saw him in the rearview going down the hill very fast, but I didn't wait to see the result as I had already topped the next hill.

Actually yeah a lot of people don't like their jeeps. All those 1-2 year old used jeeps on dealer lots-those are people who turned out to not be jeep people. I've seen it happen several times. My sister was one of them. Got a jeep like mine and after 8 months realized it wasn't for her

Now on the forum you won't find a single one who doesn't like their jeep

"That's too clean! Mall crawler!"

This was after I spent 4 hours washing the mud off. Some guy yelled at me while I was leaving our Chinese overlords parking lot after buying groceries.

He looked to be in his 70's.
