Unhappy Skeeter hurt my jeep.

Last night, we were going to go out for dinner. Skeeter was a sweety and went out to start my jeep, to warm it up. Next thing I know, there's a big CLANK, BANG, BANG, "OH S#@T!"

I go outside and find my jeep in the flowerbed that runs along the front of the porch and Skeeter has a really annoyed and somewhat surprised look on his face. Then I notice the decorative metal post that was holding up the corner of the porch roof was gone. The look on his face turned to a mix of guilt ("oh crap, she noticed!"), a fleeting look of cunning ("how can I make this her fault?") and regret. It was actually kind of entertaining to watch all of these expressions do battle on his face.

He said it was because... something about the difference in the way I park compared to the way he parks but he was the last one to drive my jeep before that so... I'm not really sure how he drove my jeep up onto the front porch.

Anyway, the decorative metal post came down on my front driver's side fender. We cleaned away the snow and ice as well as we could in the freezing weather and it looks like some of the paint came off the post but I couldn't tell if there are scratches or dings under it.

The porch roof didn't fall down. That surprised me! Skeeter was able to shove the post back into place but the roof and post will have to be fixed come spring, if it lasts that long.

sounds like maybe it was in gear and he thought it was in neutral and maybe it jumped forward when he cranked it, but idk

Probably a good thing you weren't driving the bus! Might have knocked in the whole wall!

This was nowhere near as bad as when I got drunk and ripped the bathroom sink out. Have you ever tried to replumb a bathroom sink when the world won't stop spinning? Man what a mess.

Not my fault they put one of those godsforsaken idiotic neutral safety switches in. If I hadn't had to reach in to push in the clutch I wouldn't have gotten my leg stuck and dragged across the driveway. sheesh

Skeeter, just so you don't think you are the only person to have ever done this, at a dealership I worked at years ago, we had an old Dakota w/ a manual in the shop for something electrical, sitting on the ground, tech reached thru the window to turn the key on for something, not knowing that the neutral safety switch was inoperative, and the truck not only started, but launched itself across the shop! While this could have been much worse, it didn't end well for the Dakota, or the shop, since directly across from the Dakota was a 2500 Ram getting new brakes, just so you can imagine the approximate height. Windshield frame of a Dakota is no match for the front bumper of that truck, however, physics got involved and the lil truck managed to shove the bigger one 2/3 off the lift! The only thing that kept it from going all the way of the back was that the overhead door was closed, so that was what caught the truck! BTW, did I mention that the dealership was open when all this happened!?

oh man...so how much longer was he employed at that dealer?..lol

that is always something im paranoid about actually. that ill be working on my jeep, and go to turn the key while im standing outside, and will have forgotten it was not in neutral and then something bad could happen..lol..especially considering my garage only has about 3.5-4 feet on each end of the jeep when its right in the middle of the garage..lol..

Got a similar story here too.

Years ago, a buddy of mine started up his CJ-7 in the garage while standing next to it. It was in gear and lurched forward towards the back of the garage. Not too bad except that his Dad's Harley was in the way. Hit the Harley and sent it forward into the freezer then into the washer and dryer. All total, the bike needed a new windshield, head lamp and saddle bags (it was a full dress). Freezer door was banged up quite a bit and the washer and dryer got by with only a few scrapes. His dad was not too terribly happy about it. But all easily fixable. Yes - the Jeep survived with no damage.
