Slow on acceleration

Is it normal for the Jeep Wrangler Sport to be slow on acceleration? It doesn't bother me if that's normal, I'll be taking her on a five hour road trip this Wednesday to break her in so to speak and I just wondered if the slow acceleartion was normal for the Jeep.

what year? how many miles? im guessing your not pedal to the floor or anything crazy? when i got mine it felt "slow" compared to what i drove before but it wasnt anything i didnt expect

It's a 2012, I just bought it, under 200 miles. No, I don't put the pedal to the floor or anything nuts. I traded in a Toyota Corolla for it.

1) Assuming you are not used to the drive by wire ECU controlled throttle.
Get on it. Needs to learn a more aggressive driving style.

2) im going to assume you have 3.21's also
Auto/manual ?
The 3.8/3.6 like Rpms. Don't be afraid to get it up to 3000-4000 RPM's if it's a stick.
Or auto use that fancy shifter tap thingy to hold a lower gear

MY JK has a bunch (IDK how much) more ponies than my TJ and my JK feels slow compared to the TJ...unless I get my foot in it (and you don't want to do that when it is new)the JK which does have 3.21's and auto. and the TJ is 3.73s and a stick.

Break it in easy but don't baby it...they talk about varying speeds and Rpms and acceleration...enjoy the new addiction!!! Top off is great!!

I drove a 12 auto w/ 3.21's

First thought "this thing is weak" then I realized I was driving around at 1200 RPM's

0 ponies down that low lol

with wider tires and the road resistance, 1200 RPM is hardly enough to keep speed on a flat roadway

Well it is an automatic, and I have never driven a 4x4 before. This is my first so I'm in pretty new territory. I babied it for a day or so but now I'm getting bolder about it, but not flooring it either. It just doesn't seem to have the same pickup as my Corolla had but that's probably because it's a Jeep, not a Corolla. Go fig.

Your supposed to run it full throttle through the gears occasionally during its break it. Owners manual. Your only hurting your engine lugging it. Its not a diesel, and its not a v8. Step on that thing.

Page 21 of your manual. After 300 miles brief full throttle acceleration is desireable for a proper engine breakin. Also says not to do that in low gear.

She had some serious hills to go up yesterday, and she groaned like crazy but I kept it at the speed limit and made her work, though I didn't overwork her. On the flat road I kept it at the limit. I don't go over the limit. She handled it well, though she was slow going up the hills (they were bloody steep!)

If you have it lifted and wider mud tires it will have an effect on acceleration. The more toys you add the more sluggish it will get.
