Snowy Mountains < Jeep

Yesterday I had to drive over the Appellation Gap in Vermont, so I decided to carpool with my buddy in his Saab. It was snowing pretty hard and I asked him if he had snowtires, and of course he did. We started nearing the top of the mountain and he starts slipping everywhere and barely makes it to the top. His tires are spinning out of control and we decide to turn around and get the Jeep. On the way down we start sliding sideways right towards the guard rail and nearly smashed into it. We go back to his house, get in the Jeep, and drive up the Gap in a quarter of the time it took him. On the way back, there were a few people off the road, so of course, we help pull them out. And I get to use my new shovel that I mounted a few days ago. All in all, a good day for a Jeep.

It's sitting on P265/75R15 Firestone Winterforce with studs. People can say what they want about them, but they are amazing in the snow and I love them.

Lincoln Gap or the pass by Mad River ski area?

I've done the one by Mad River minutes after a squall and don't ever want to do it again. Steep grades coupled with an ice glazing, ledge, and guard rail are not fun.
Don't imagine Lincoln Gap is fun on ice either.

Back in the 80's I drove my CJ-5 around the barricades on Smugglers Notch. The X-country skiers didn't seem to approve. Some hikers gave me a thumbs up. Today I'd probably be burned at the stake.

The one by Mad River. I drive over it all the time, but it's still scary. The Lincoln Gap closed a couple weeks ago because they don't plow or sand it and no one lives up there. That would probably be sketchy though
