You could see it coming from the proverbial "mile away" as Chrysler prepared to make the move to smaller more fuel efficient vehicles to stay in the "game." Ford and GM have taken such a beating with their SUV sales (worse than Jeep) and Chrysler appears to be thinking about how they can strengthen the Jeep brand. The tragedy is twofold. First, that's not a Jeep no matter how we cut it. If it's not Trail Rated, it's not a Jeep and we've been "watered down." Second, I'm old enough to remember the gasoline "scare" of the late 70s when gas went to $1.65 per gallon (equivalent of nearly $4 per gallon today with inflation) and everyone panicked and purchased small foreign cars for fuel efficiency for no real reason. The price of gas dropped within a few months and the panic was worthless. We have three Jeep daily drivers and I refuse to give in to the panic. Fox News reported today that the cost of oil may drop to $60 per barrel by Halloween which would drop the price by $1 per gallon. I refuse to give up the freedom of windshield down and doors and top off. I'm holding on no matter what.
