soft top conditioning

I just recently bought my 2006 unlimited. the soft top is still in great condition ( from the origanal owner always being deployed and never drove the thing, i got it with 42,000 miles with it fully decked out!) anyways, with the years on it, what is best used to keep the top in best condition?

Bestop makes stuff to keep their tops clean: Bestop Soft Top Cleaner and Protectant - Quadratec

I use Aerospace 303 on my soft top (I've got an ORH top, but used it on my OEM top before I replaced it). I just spray the 303 on and scrub it in with a soft bristle brush. It'll get mud out of the nooks and crannies, too. You can get it at most marine supply stores, some hardware stores, or on Amazon. Keeps the fenders nice and black, too.

Some folks use Simple Green the same way as above.

Keep the zippers lubricated, as well. I live in a cold weather climate and the salt they use on the roads in winter can trash the zipper teeth in nothing flat.

I've used several things from time to time and all work equally well:
  • Bestop makes a good cleaner as well as a protectant and they sell them by them selves or in a combo pack along with window cleaner.
  • Aerospace 303 Protectant is good but pricey
  • Mother's Back to Black is a good protectant as well and can be picked up at most auto parts stores

Thanks for the replies! i will look for them online. I am stationed over seas (Aviano, Italy) and pretty much anything i want or need has to be bought online. i can't just go into a store a look around.

Also my velcro is becoming a little frayed. I dont know how big of deal that will play?

Thanks for your service, stormand.

You can't go wrong with the Bestop products kbwwolf a link to.

Depending on where your velcro os worn, it is usually just to hold down flaps over zippers so it may or may not be critical.

You can buy replacement velcro online as well, just look up as heavy duty velcro.
