The boot keeps the top neat, and clean while allowing you to keep it with you in case of inclement weather. If it's at home, and it rains you're getting wet. My Mopar boot for my TJ has bags that zip on to keep the windows with it as well. Only used them once since they do take up some room in the rear and my kids complained. Actually only used the boot once. It looks nice, but it takes a few minutes to install, and is generally not worth the effort to me. JMO

The advantage of the 'cover' is to keep road dust and water out of the softtop. You don't realize you need one until you've been jeeping on backwoods dirt roads, get caked in dust, then it starts to rain...so you jump out, raise the soft top, put it on...and jump back in your seat. Now your seat is suddenly full of dust and water...duh-do we have a leak? Look up to the soft top as you hit a bump-and get a facefull of more dust and water that had accumulated on the canvas because you were too cheap to get the cover and use it! LOL...been there, done that...
the cover definitely has a use!
