Soft top window and Duct tape

I recently bought a rubicon with a soft top and the window on the soft top was sliced so the PO put black Duct tape on the window and now i cant see out the rear window. i want to take it off and put clear packing tape to seal it so i can can some what see out of it. But when i take off the duct tape it is going to leave the glue on the window so what would y'all suggest to use to remove this crap. Thanks

not to be harsh---I would replace the window. Having been through this type of deal..it is a real PIA to clean and even the "clear" tape is not gonna "cut it".

may take some hunting--may watch the trade or sell thread/ section there are not a lot of them but they do pop up--say someone gets a new top and not worth selling the whole thing rips or cut side windows--hardware bad etc. I have seen them--also I THINK there are places to get just back window but it may be more than it is worth---i.e. could buy a whole top for just a little more.

Good Luck

It's okay, man. I didn't think to google something before posting before. You're okay.

How bout replacing Just the fabric.
Bestop's is actually called the Replace-a-top, although a little pricey. Check out Pavement Ends, a bestop sister company.
There are many others.
If you do find windows-make sure they match the year/model.

Lighter Fluid does pretty well on cleaning up adhesive. Goo Gone works too.

Which window. I know you can buy individual door skins.

As does ammonia and a razor. That's how they take tint off glass.

Call Quadratec, Bestop, your favorite supplier. See what they say about buying the one piece.

Use duct tape

Press a new piece of tape on the residual adhesive and pull off. Will have to do multiple times. Each time a little bit of the old adhesive will lift off. This technique also works on pile fabrics like capreting.
