Soft top wont line up??!!

Alright so here's my problem. I have a 2000 tj with a soft top by bestop. So when I go to put my top down, everything is fine. But when I fold it back up to latch it down, the latches tht hook to the windshield frame, don't match up with the holes. The only way I got it to go back on last time was to lay on the top of the windshield frame and reach around to the latches and get em close to the holes and then use a hammer to get it in and then snap the latch down. As y'all can guess I dont wana always do this. Any reasons as to why it's this way and any ways I can fix it? Thnks guys!

I had this problem before I learned how to fold the soft top correctly. If you don't remove the rear flaps beside the tailgate before latching the windshield latches, it won't line up right. Generally, it's easiest to put the rear flaps on last after latching the top on the windshield and inserting the plastic things in the surround.

Yes, you have to undo the sail panels in the back before you attach the header at the windshield. When lowering the top, undoing the sail panels is the second step, after unhooking the header. Flip them up on to the top, then fold it down.

We rarely recommend using a hammer.

Try the trick of putting the header clamp in first.
