OK, so i'm in the market for a new soft top..and there was mention in another thread about Softopper Model #Wrangler
So i decided to inquire, and emailed them, telling them how the top is nice and looks good. I just didn't like how they mention that with soft doors it wouldn't be water-tight...Also explained that i am considering the rampage bowless top as well.
(if you look at the pics you'll see that a 1"x1" tube is used as the door surround, and it seems that the full hard doors close well with this. So i went on to say how i'd love to know if there was some way i could use my existing factory door surrounds that i use for my upper soft doors with this top.
emails me back saying what i already knew, but also stated the following 2 days ago:
Currently the tops do not offer a watertight seal around the soft door uppers. Our top will not work with the factory door surrounds. We may come up with one in the future that will work with the factory surrounds. I have some surrounds out in the shop. I will go out there now and see what it would entail to make the top work with them. The side windows have two velcro loops that wrap arround the door surrounds to keep them in place.
I never got to email him a reply with more questions. But he then sent me an additional email last nite:
I spent all day redesigning the tj top to fit with door surrounds and it is an amazing fit. I am going to sew up a complete top tomorrow myself and make any final tweaks to the patterns and go then into production. It may be a few weeks before we see a batch of 40 but you will not be disapointed. Please consider this.
So far these guys sound promising. Of course they'd love to sell more tops, but i'm happy so far with them at least keeping in touch with me. I'm going to keep in contact with them. Hopefully, they can show me something that will work. I'm sure i'm not the first guy to email them, hoping for an alternative, for those of us with soft doors..
They make a top for TJ LJ and YJ's
