I bought my Jeep used and it didn't have a cover. Honestly, I still haven't decided if I want one. :|

I was too cheap to purchase a 5th M/T KM2 when I ordered a new set of tires, the spare on the back was the same size so I just bought a best top cover and slapped it on there.

I have an idea to put on one but I don't know who could make it for me. I guess it would be a custom one. But I don't think an airbrushed one would stand up against the elements very well... Any ideas or suggestions out there?

For the longest time I wanted to get one of those hard-sided spare covers (usually has a pad lock at the bottom....frequently seen on the backs of conversion vans...yeah, I'm old)

I wanted the face to be gloss-black and the "ring" to be coated in bed liner. I thought it would look cool.

My plan was I was gonna have a bunch of bumper stickers made with some of my more pithy commentary on them. Place them on the face radiating out from the center like spokes. The I was gonna fashion some sorf ot N S E W lettering and bolt a "needle" in the center like a big-arse compass....the needle would spin freely and point at random bumperstickers. Yeah Im geeky, too.

Then I started reading the posts on this forum about Spare covers.

First, it became clear that it would be difficult to find a hard cover for 33x12.5

Then it became clear that the general forum concensus is that Spare covers are not well thought of in the community. They are thought to hide an important aspect of your customization...what kinda rubber you wear.

In short, the attitude seems to be, If ya got good meat...flaunt it.

Who am I to disagree with that wisdom.

I spared myself the....embarrassment of my "custom" spare cover, and have been Flaunting my meat everywhere I go.

Funny...inobody seems to notice/care.

So...cover it...or flaunt it... whichever works best for you. Just take it out and enjoy it.

Actually, I'm still shopping for a tire cover. I have a design I need custom done and the only custom places I can find so far want like $150. HATE the plain brown cover currently on the spare.

So if anyone knows a good source for cheaper custom printed tire covers I'd love to know.

I have a black, hard-side spare tire cover that came with Jeep. Bought it used. Been thinking about taking it off but not sure.

is the cover simply for looks? I was told i should get one to help protect the tire from UV. True?

No cover on my spare, I prefer the look of it uncovered.
As far as UV damage, if you do the 5 tire rotation I do not think it is an issue after all you do not cover the other 4 tires to prevent UV damage.

That slogan is commonly accepted as Land Rovers advertising tagline here in the UK.

Any self-respecting Jeep owner would shy away from it.

I have seen a derivative of it in common use though......... 'One Wife, Leave it!'

Yes, I know about the UK LR (camel trophy). That's why I like it - I was recently deployed to Europe and traveled all over, so it is a personal connection to my military experience. It changed my outlook on life, and that is why I returned home, sold my horse, and bought another Jeep. It's my version of Life is Short! :-)

Anyhow, further research found this, so apparently it is acceptable for Jeep owners:

The only one I ever liked is what would have come on my Sahara in the first place, the dark Khaki one with the Palm tree graphic on it (which is also our state tree and on our flag). But I just don't like it $60 to almost $70 worth is all. I can live without it for that. But if I run into one in great shape and just happen to have the spare change I might be tempted to get that one. Just not a priority is all.

I'm working on designing my own. I don't feel like dishing out the cash to get a matching spare, so I'm just covering it for now until I need new tires.

I'm a pretty good artist, so I'll be drawing a design up and getting someone in my town to print it on a plain tire cover (hopefully). I don't know exactly what it will be, but I'm thinking something Native American themed, perhaps a chief head, dreamcatcher, something of the sort. I really admire the Native American culture

Will post pics if it happens!

I have a dive flag spare tire cover, since I can't get my customary dive flag sticker to stick on the wrangler bumper. Took a bit of looking till I found one big enough - finally located it at tire-covers.com.

I want one but can't decide if I should invest in the color matched rigid one by boomerang. If not I like the " life is good" with the daisy ( to girly it up), or I saw one with an American flag inside a peace sign...

When I picked up my 2012 Rubicon the dealer had installed a spare tire cover with the dealer's advertisement on it. OK it's a litty cheesy but it was free and besides who would want to steal it. I will use it until I get tired of it.
