Starting issues

My son has a 96 Cherokee 4.0, automatic. He has had problems starting it even though it's not a Wrangler I still have to work on it for him...ugh.
I believe it could possibly be the safety neutreul switch cuz you can play with the shifter and will start sometime's. Im not sure of the location of the nss any info would be great. Thanks in advance and sorry if I posted in wrong location of forum...did not see a tech section.

I have no clue...

however I looked on jeepforum (its a larger site, and I find more answers there for a wider range of questions)

neutral safety switch on a 99 tj? - JeepForum.com
I know its for a TJ, but maybe it crosses over somewhat? I have no idea, but its a starting place for you. Jerry B's post seems like a good place to start working.

What transmission does the Cherokee have?

EDIT - found this one - its even better (And cherokee specific)

Thanks mrcarcrazy but I found it. It's on the passenger side of the trany. I removed, took it apart and cleaned it. Works fine now
