Steering problems

I have a 94 yj and recently the power steering i think has been acting up. To explain its like i have dead spots in my steering. this isnt exact but we'll say every half turn or so it gets hard to turn like there isnt any power steering. It doesnt matter if i'm goin fast or slow. We re greased it the tir rod and ends arent bent ,theres fluid....i cant figure it out. This all started after and off road outing where i was buried in a mud hole the pump was definetly drowned in mud it acted like this for a couple days then it went away. Its like two weeks later and it has started up again. What could the problem be?
TIA

i would suggest trying a power steering fluid flush, some shops have an actual machine to flush it. don't bother with one that doesn't have a machine.

Had same exact problem on my old YJ. It ended up being the shaft that connects the steering column to the steering box. The u-joints were dry and binding. Replaced it with a new one from quadra-tec.
If you take the shaft out and move the u-joints by hand, it will be very obvious if they are bad

i've seen that happen when the ps pump is low on fluid and cavitating. verify the steering shaft isnt bent or damaged (rag joint as mentioned above), otherwise, id be checking ps lines and pump.
