Stereo thoughts...2000 tj

So finally got my 2000 sahara and god the stereo and speaker bar are crap. Been looking all morning at the speaker bars on 4wd.com. To many choices. Gonna toss in a cheaper head unit with USB. Switch out the dash speakers with something mote quality and a small small amp somewhere( any ideas for amp location?). But the speaker bar is the problem. To many choices. 6 speaker? The corner ones? Wedges instead? Or the one that has storage with 5 speakers that runs down the middle? Anyone with any luck with these?

This is me - closely watching this thread... I've got a speaker bar that has two round speakers and a light. I do like the tunes... I may be selling my car - if I do, I'll going to put the stock stuff back in the car and put the stereo, speakers, amp, etc, into the jeep.

Just swap out the speakers in the soundbar... 6.5" fit and sound much better than the stockers... If you want tho' you can just swap for another pair of 5.25's in the soundbar. you can also upgrade the dash speakers with 5.25's rather than the 4x6's that are in there. But you need an adapter from ebay or Crutchfield or somewhere for them to fit.

Let's face it, a Jeep is never going to have fantastic sound but it's worth it to swap out those paper cone POS speakers Chrysler gives you

I don't have any experience with those fancy replacement soundbars but I installed these in the front Infinity Kappa 462.9cfp 4"x6" 2-way plate car speakers at Crutchfield Signature These in the sound wedges Infinity Kappa 52.9i 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield Signature This head unit Alpine iDA-X305 Digital media receiver at Crutchfield Signature with the in line power pack amplifier Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack Upgrade your Alpine receiver to 45 watts RMS x 4 at Crutchfield.com Which I installed behind the glove box.

With some good speakers and a head unit with some power behind it, I'm happy. I also HIGHLY recommend Crutchfield. They give you the all the harnesses, adapters, and vehicle specific odds and ends for free.

Hope that helps.

All told, about $600. Installation is a snap, takes a coupe hours. The hardest part is soldering up the wiring harness but its no biggie.

i have a 04 wrangler and put a Kenwood deck with usb and a JL Audio 12 in sub Party pack( sub with amp attached) had to remove amp from sub and put amp under rear seat. Replaced sound bar speakers with JL replacement ones. Sounds good. I will amp the sound bar and front speakes soon.

Crutchfield shows that head unit as being discontinued. Any suggestions for an alternative unit? ( I am partial to Alpines)

I put this Kenwood in my TJ this summer. It's not the cheapest thing out there ($200-ish), but it was what I wanted. The rear USB cable reaches the glovebox, so I can keep a USB drive locked up out of sight.

I also put on this locking stereo cover. More of a theft deterrent than theft protection, due o the way it mounts.

All in all, I'm happy with both the appearance and performance of the stereo.
I've been too lazy to deal with the speakers. Maybe I'll get some speakers from Santa

I just did mine. I went with a alpine head unit with usb that i love. New pioneers all around. Still sounds like crap. I would replace the stock but wouldn't bother spending alot unless you're gonna go with amp/sub etc

Deffinately gonna have to look at that crutchfield site. Still can't decide between a speaker bar upgrade to one of the ones with 6 speakers or just replacing the speakers in the old bar (has 2 and a light).

Now that I actually have my new (to me!) Jeep home, I realize it's got an Alpine iDA-X303. No replacement needed! Just have to take a look at the speakers to see how they are.

I have had an Alpine CDA-105 and it works and sounds like a charm.

Crutchfield has it for 209.99.
