Stinky heater in 2010 Wrangler

My heater only blows hot on the passenger side and fairly cool (not cold) on driver's side. When I first turn the heat on, it smells for quite awhile. I'm not sure how I came up with the descriptor of the smell, but it smells like burnt syrup (not that I've actually smelled that before). Any ideas what this may be?

Yes- the infamous heater core issue. Do a search, and you'll find a bunch of info on it. Essentially, there is casting sand leftover from production in the block that prevents efficient water circulation. Must of the time it's a two day job, covered under the 3/36 warranty. If you're out of warranty, you might be able to push it since Chrysler is well aware of it.
