I have an '04 TJ sport with an OME lift sitting on 31's 3.73 posi/dana 44 rear end 5speed I6. I have been very impressed with what it was able to do because it really is pretty much stock just a little lift, would be the only thing going for it. Just gotta pick your lines when the mud gets deep. I do have better approach/ departure angles because of aftermarket bumpers but that doesn't come into play to much for me.

I also have '12 JK Sport that I purchased in DEC. and the difference in the snow is unbelievable!! and my gut opinion is the JK would do way better than the TJ since it has more power bigger tires and seems more stable.
Way too many variables affect what it can or cannot do. Two of the many that come to mind right away are operator skill and vehicle preparation (running full inflation or aired down? amongst other things). All other things being equal, a stock sport cannot do what a stock Rubi can do.
The National Park Service has a Trail Rating Guide that you can find on Google. Keep in mind that some very experienced and worthy wheelers take exception with some of the individual trail designated ratings. In other words, be sure you know that you can get you, the folks you are responsible for, and your equipment in and out safely, without doing any damage to the path you have taken.
Also, some of the states and private ORV areas have their own rating systems, which are not always consistent. Anyway, here is some info from Tellico that you might find worth reading:
Trail Rating Legend
Trails are rated from 1(easiest) to 10 (most difficult). Keep in mind that rain or snow can increase the ratings at Tellico by two to three points.
1-3 feature trails with obstacles that are easy to navigate. In optimum weather conditions, some of these trails may not require the continual use of four-wheel drive (4WD).
4-7 trails are moderately demanding and require 4WD. You may encounter a wide variety of challenges, including mud holes, boulders, and stream crossings.
8-9 ratings indicate that the likelihood of getting stuck is considerably higher. Mud holes here may be deep and rock climbing will be more arduous. There is a chance for parts breakage and body damage on these trails.
10 is reserved for the rocky, off-camber, most difficult obstacles. Rollovers, breakage and body damage is to be expected here.

i have a alomost completely stock 99 TJ and can hold my own on most of the trails i go on. and im not very experienced. i havent even owned the jeep a year yet. when i bought it there was a small body lift and it has 32" tires on it. im sure you will be just fine.
my tires are also all terrian tires that are way worn down not mud terrian which would be even better
Stock vs Stock. The Jeep Wrangler is currently the most cappable vehclile made for offroading.. So consider yourself to be extrememly capabable.. Only vehcile currently being produced that is more capabable then your Sport is a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
